We really wanted to love this place as we live locally. First off, great effort doing a concept like this on the outskirts of Woking. We ate Friday 28th March. Restaurant busy and we were told of a 20 minute wait before taking our order - no issue at all for us and expect some teething issues with a new establishment on a busy night. We ordered two sirloins and a bottle of Malbec, cabbage and mac and cheese sides. Waitress was a bit clunky taking the order, had me down for a ribeye before I repeated myself. Waitress behind dropped a knife on my wife as she was clearing away a table. Waiter took my cutlery away, in an effort to make space on the table, which, by the way, are too narrow. Another table nearby had to get up to pay their bill - service very disjointed and lacking training despite having 4-5 on. Our meals arrived in good time despite the supposed delay. Steak was very good. Puree was cold. Masala chips very soggy (thought I’d try them). Mac and Cheese in large a bowl and has been microwaved (bowl very hot, middle of dish like warm). Better to serve these in small cast iron rammicans. Fries your standard faire. Tomatoes undercooked but I’m being picky. Cabbage tasted great but was very overcooked, soggy and all the water had released out of it. You need to just flash it on the grill. Steak came with wrong sauce, don’t know how as it was read back to me correctly when ordering. At £120 for two, just can’t justify the prices or giving it another chance. Best off going to Blacklock in London - you’d part with £150 for two but it’s executed far far better. Or, alternatively, your local pub for a steak meal and...
Read moreA true hidden gem! We reserved a table at Urban Carnivore for my daughter's 16th birthday. We were warmly welcomed by one of the owners, who at the time was the only person serving the entire floor. We were honestly impressed by his ability to manage the service so effectively during such a busy time. He ensured that we were well catered for, frequently checking in on our meal and more.
We ordered the trio steak sharing board, the burger, and the Mac & Cheese. The steaks (ribeye, sirloin, and rump, ranging from 11oz to 14oz each!) were cooked perfectly. They came with a variety of six dipping sauces, a side of bone marrow, and a big pinch of flaky salt to season to our liking, roasted cherry tomatoes and two portions of amazing, crispy fries. It was priced at £75, which is a great saving compared to ordering the individual steaks (which would total £90), so we highly recommend it. My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed the steaks and fries. The sauces were a bit of a mix for me personally, but having such a wide choice was excellent. My son had the burger and rated it a 10 out of 10, and my partner's Mac & Cheese was tasty and well-cooked. As we were beginning to wrap up, the owner came over with a birthday treat for us all on the house: a rich yet light tiramisu! It was a super nice gesture and a great way to finish the meal (though be mindful of the coffee flavour, as it's a bit polarising for some people 😉). Overall, it was an amazing experience with great food and service. It's a steakhouse, and it is priced very well for steaks of that size...
Read moreWe were served by Dee and she honestly made our night! We had originally booked for 20:45 but had to move our reservation twice and finally settled on 22:00. Dee was kind enough to call and let us know that the kitchen actually closed at 21:30, but when we explained that we could only make it for around 21:40, she graciously made an exception and welcomed us in.
From the moment we arrived, there were no signs at all that we came late—Dee was so lovely and accommodating throughout. Her service was absolutely amazing, couldn’t stress that enough! We even asked if she could make margaritas (even though they weren’t on the menu), and she happily did.
They surprised us with a complimentary dessert for my birthday, which was such a thoughtful touch. The food was incredible — hands down the best steak and Smash burger we’ve ever had, and we’re total foodies who love eating out.
Even though we work in the same industry and know how stressful last-minute orders can be, it didn’t feel rushed at all — the food quality and presentation by the chef/chefs were top-notch. Dee didn’t rush us to order either, even though we tried to be quick out of courtesy.
Honestly, she completely turned our experience around. We really appreciated the flexibility and the warm, genuine service — Dee is an absolute credit...
