Unfortunately, this will be the last time we book for Mothers Day, and actually, any occasion again at Berry Brook. We had booked a good few weeks back for a family of 10 in the family area and paid the deposit of £50. Our table was booked for 16:30 and no time limit was given to us at the time of booking. My nan and my uncle were seated first, again no time limit mentioned. The rest of the family then joined. Again, no time limit was mentioned. There was no time limit stated on the table, and there was no time limit on the original booking confirmation email. We proceeded to order food and drinks, waited around 15 minutes to be served, and had no issue with that as it was a long queue. We then queued even longer for the food as we had a carvery, again no complaints about that either as its Mothers day, of course there are queues. When we had just about finished eating, maybe 10 minutes later, the same guy who seated my nan and uncle came to our table and told us we had 15 minutes to vacate. We asked why, and he said you only get the table for 2 hours. The time at this point was 17:45, so if that was the case, we should have the table until 18:30. We went up to the bar to speak with the manager who informed us we arrived at 16:00 we confirmed we arrived at 16:30 and showed the email of confirmation she said even so you have the table for 1.5 hours so it had been reduced now by 30 minutes. We said we were just told 2 hours now it's been reduced we haven't even had a chance to order dessert as we have only just finished eating. The manager said it's packed in here we've booked that table from 6pm so you have to vacate and your email tells you that too. The email didn't and we showed her this. She said even so, that's your limit. So no sorry for not telling you in the first instance i.e when you booked, no sorry for not making it clear when you arrived, not even sorry for cutting it from 2 hours to 1.5 it was literally times up guys. It totally spoilt the atmosphere for every guest on our table. At this point my sister hadn't even finished eating her food after the 1.5 hour mark and the kids hadn't finished their ice creams. We went back to our seats to finish up but 18:00 arrived, 18:30 arrived even 18:45 arrived and we were still sat at the table there were no bookings waiting. There were also at least 4 other vacant tables at the family area at this time too. So it makes me wonder why the manager lost all customer service at that point and treated us the way she did when she didn't have any urgency to do so. It's a real shame as we were booking for Easter 13 of us but aren't going to bother now because the feeling of being rushed is horrible....! I think next time, any time limits should be given at the time of booking, and then reconfirmed on the booking email and then maybe a sign on the table too just so it's there in black and white. My overall view of this place has unfortunately decreased because of todays incident and all the blame went on the new booking system.... The...
Read moreI used to come here alot when it was the Pear Tree Inn. I have a young child so I loved not only the indoor play but also the outdoor garden, especially in the warmer weather. I'm pleased to see the garden area hasn't changed but I'm disappointed that the standards for maintaining a busy beer garden have fell well below whats acceptable. Half empty pint n wine glasses, and snack rubbish Eeeeverywhere! ! Anyway.. The indoor play area took some getting used to but it's nice. A lot calmer! I haven't been here when it's a busy wet weekend but due to it being significantly smaller I can imagine that it wouldn't be great if there were more than 6/7 kids in the play area at one time. Plus, on every visit I've made, at least half of the entertainment (air hockey, grabber machine or console game) has been out of order. (Obviously in an ideal world it just means the kids have to share & be patient.. What an inconvenience tho right?? 🙈 haha)
Staff at the bar were very friendly and helpful & the guy who seemed to be the manager smiles a lot 😆 lol.. He chipped in to serve as well which is good to see rather than a stand an bark orders approach.
I didn't order from the menu but me & my little girl did enjoy a carvery. Plenty choice on trimmings and fair portions of meat. Can't remember exact price but sure it's under £8 for a medium adult plate. They do 3 size plates but *Note - If u order a kids meal for a child instead of a 'small' plate you get free ice cream (nice little bonus 😉 ...subject to change, obvs lol )
Their cake 😨 😨 😨 ...portion size is ridonkulouuus!! One slice was literally bigger than my 4 year olds head 😂 Soooo much sugar & colouring but very tasty and presentation was on point! 👏
As a whole, we enjoyed our experience here & it's definitely somewhere I would recommend to families with younger children or those who are on a budget. The prices seem pretty fair. It's not 5 star establishment but hey, they don't claim to be. Just a great family local pub who have adequate entertainment for the little ones meaning us grown ups can enjoy a bit of well deserved time out 😊
Oh, they have their own large car park with plenty of parking bays and also a few disabled bays right in front...
Read moreWe haven't been here for approximately 5 years, so we decided to try instead of our usual carvery haunt. We booked for 1 pm, and arrived 20 minutes early. We were surprised as it wasn't that busy, with lots of empty tables. We ordered drinks and paid for the carvery with 1 portion of extra Yorkies / pigs in blankets. Then, we joined the substantially long queue, considering the place appeared half empty. We waited a good 15 minutes or more in the carvery queue before getting served. Only 3 choices of meats. Turkey, tough chewy beef, and tasteless, slightly undercooked gammon. The yorkies were gooey inside and tasty salty. The extra pigs in blankets were hard, dry, and crispy, so they were overcooked or overheated. The mash was a sticky, gloopy mess. (Packet mash?). The Brussel Sprouts tasted like they were frozen; chunky cut carrots were tasty; red cabbage was tastless and hard; cauliflower cheese was hard and didn't taste of cheese; the roasted parsnips were tasty and cooked appropriately for size; the normal cooked roast potatoes and the small skin on potatoes were enjoyable; the stuffing was too salty. All three of us were truly disappointing, as previous visits, albeit a while, had been enjoyable for a breakfast carvery and a buffet provided for a Wake.
When I got home, I realised I was charged more than I was told. I had a BLC discount so will keep an eye on the bank to see if the amount reduces.
The Female bar staff that we encountered were extremely lovely and caring. One lady offered to carry my elderly mum-in-laws plate back to the table. She was really impressed by that. The Staff member had dark, shoulder length hair, tied up, possibly early 50's or under. she was very personable and friendly, but she really made an 84 year old...
