After one of the most stressful days of my life - my husband going through a delicate operation, my son starting his very first day of school, and me rushing from work - I hadn’t eaten all day. I thought I’d grab something quickly at Greggs in New Cross Hospital.
Unfortunately, what I expected to be a small comfort turned into another disappointment. I stood in the queue for 10 minutes, only to be rushed by two staff members who were robotic, cold, and completely disengaged. One of them told me, in a very serious way that the sandwich I chose couldn’t be heated, so I opted for a veggie pizza instead. The payment process was done without so much as a smile, and the other staff member was blatantly chewing gum while serving - unprofessional and disheartening.
When I finally got my food, the pizza was stone cold. To make things worse, there weren’t even enough seats, so I had to stand juggling my bags and work laptop, eating a cold meal after a draining day.
It may not seem like much to the staff, but small gestures - warmth, a smile, a bit of kindness - make a huge difference, especially to customers who may be going through a tough time. Sadly, my experience was painful and unpleasant, and I hope never to repeat it. I will stay away from Greggs from now on.
A piece of advice to the members of staff: Remember that the people you serve might be having the hardest day of their lives. A little humanity and customer care can go a...

Today I visited Greggs at New Cross Hospital. While two customers ahead of me were being served, the member of staff (a black female server) continued to chat with them about personal matters even after completing their order. I waited patiently for around two minutes, but as I had an appointment to attend, I politely asked if I could be served.
The staff member reacted with a dismissive expression, ignored me briefly, and only after saying goodbye to the previous customers did she serve me. When I asked for a receipt, she appeared visibly annoyed, threw it onto the counter, and gave me what I can only describe as an intimidating glare.
The food I purchased was also cold, which I did not raise at the time because of the way I was already being treated. What struck me most was the difference in attitude: I saw her serve another white male customer before me with politeness and respect, yet I did not receive the same courtesy.
I left feeling disrespected and unwelcome. In my view, the behaviour was unprofessional, and I believe there may have been an element of racial bias in how I was treated. I will not be returning to...
Read moreHaving been to visit my Dad in hospital, I thought as it was late (just after 8pm Friday), that I would grab a baguette and drink rather than wait to eat when I got home. I picked a ham and cheese baguette and orange juice and waited at the till to be served. The one sales assistant was sweeping the floor and the other preparing a drink, I'm not sure who for as there were no other customers. I waited quite a while being completely ignored. After waiting for what seemed an age I said "hello" several times to get someone's attention. Eventually, the lady sweeping the floor said she would be with me shortly. She continued with her sweeping and when finished leaned her broom against the wall and disappeared. I waited a little longer but no-one came to serve me so I decided enough was enough and put the baguette and drink back. I'm not sure what time this Greggs outlet closes in the evening but perhaps if the staff don't want to serve beyond 8pm they should make that clear and put up a closed sign rather...
