Did a hump night on Wednesday after 3 months and planned to go across the road to the Mount for a few drinks and end the night at Penn Tandoori. We arrived at Penn Tandoori around 21:50 and was advised that they close at 22:30. Bare in mind that I have never been here before so, we were escorted to to table (they should have told us that they are not taking further diners as they are closing) however, the waiter seated us and took our order for drinks which was fine but he stood there waiting and rushed us to place our food order. Despite the annoying behaviour, we placed our order without reading the full menu. The waiter then advised is that it will be about 20 minutes for the the food to arrive so we carried on chatting. The food arrived within the 20 minute window however their recommended Bangladeshi chicken dish was awful and full of ghee (fat) along with the my naan bread plastered in ghee instead of butter (mate I asked you for a butter naan). The saag paneer was not very tasty. We asked for saag paneer not palak paneer. We were presented with a bill totally up to £95 within 45 minutes of our arrival time. This waiter made a quick raise by not mentioning that we have to be out by 22:30. I am not being funny no wonder these restaurants are going bust because of the level of service offered by these imbeciles who start work at 4pm or so and want to be home by 11pm. Back in the days whenever I visited restaurants throughout Wolves we were welcomed with open arms and treated like royalty. The owners of Penn Tandoori need to read this and rectify the situation. The way these freshies are going there will be no customers. I will never be going there again. It a joke. The food and service were both below standard. If you can’t offer your standards then you should refuse...
Read moreUnfortunately we didn't have a great night here. From the time we sat down all seemed very rushed, as if they wanted our table for diners coming in later. I doubt it as it was quiet on our Friday night visit, I guess down to the England v USA game. Despite a lobby with a heater, our seats near the door caught a cold draught from being left open. We did ask if they could just push it to but it was soon open again. Even with fewer people than usual it was quite noisy, made worse by competition from their rather unpleasant music. We shared an onion bhaji starter which was very enjoyable, and well presented. All was set fair for the mains but surprisingly these were a disappointment. They also arrived a bit too soon despite us asking for a short break. The wife's dish was far too oily and thin in taste as a result. My pathia was OK, excellent chicken tikka but not quite hot enough for my taste. The sides were fine but nothing more than your usual. We didn't bother with desserts. It relatively expensive place, some of the special dishes costing as much as those in more "finer" establishments. I know they can do better but sadly it didn't happen for us...
Read moreRecommended this place to a friend to have his birthday party in as i have eaten in the restaurant before and really enjoyed it but boy was i so wrong we had the worst night ever all 15 guests ended up leaving the restaurant disgusted with the staff and the way they handled our complaints. Before we got to the restaurant we were contacted by a member of staff to ask if we minded having the table reservation put back 15min, then when we sat to eat the waiter asked to take take our order, asked him if he could give us 5 mins as some guests were not yet seated. 45 mins later we had to go and get somebody we ordered starters 20 min later still no food by this time it was after 10 oclock guests were really annoyed and some had left, ended up telling them to forget bringing any food out and all guests left hungry. Told the manager that i wouldnt be returning to this restaurant again and his reply was i wouldnt let you in anyway absolutely appalled and very disappointed. Wont ever recommended this place...
