Quaint restaurant on main level, pub below, bed & breakfast- like hotel above (& also apparently have their own brewery). We went for a later lunchtime visit but there were still several tables occupied. Higher end soups, salads, sandwiches, & burgers on the lunch menu in the restaurant. Service was helpful but not intrusive. House-made chips with what seemed to be a dusting of parmesan cheese & a reduced balsamic drizzle were at the table immediately upon sitting down. Unusual but tasty. Warm if slightly old fashioned (in a charming way) atmosphere... cozy on a bitterly cold/windy day. Food was surprisingly good. We both got the chicken bacon ranch quesadilla although it's not really a quesadilla; it's under the "Flatbreads" section of the menu for a reason. It is sandwiched between flatbread & seems to be lightly grilled to melt the cheese/hold it all together, just don't anticipate a standard quesadilla. It was delicious though, especially dipped in the chipotle ranch "dipper" (dipping sauce) which despite the name wasn't at all spicy, just flavorful. It did seem a little skimpy on the bacon, cheese, & scallions but it wasn't enough of an issue to bother about it. Comes with either a side house or caesar salad, both of which were quite substantial portions for being a side (it comes in a bowl on the plate with the meal not before it). I got the caesar which was absolutely delicious; best I've had in ages. My friend got the mixed greens house salad but he had it without dressing so I can't comment on the balsamic vinaigrette house dressing. We also got a side of sweet potato fries as well as a side of regular french fries. The sweet potato fries were quite good. The standard fries were really pretty lousy... dense, floppy & oily with an almost donut like taste /texture. Very odd. It's possible it wasn't the best batch but I'm not sure I'd bother trying them again. Overall it was a good time & a good meal. Would...
Read moreHad dinner on a recent evening here and enjoyed it very much. We dined outdoors, and they have expanded their outdoor dining due to covid, which was much appreciated. We went simple - tried their brussel sprout appetizer, along with an order of their flatbread pizza, and their rachel sandwich. Between 2 of us, there was plenty of food to enjoy. And we accompanied the food with several craft brews. We started with a flight of 5 sampler glasses (4oz each) so we were able to test several different brews before settling on a couple of pints. Nice way to try their many different beers. The outdoor seating is along the front of their building, which faces the Abbotstown square (which is really a traffic circle), and it is a busy crossroad of traffic (US 30 intersecting Pa Rte 194), which we knew when we booked, so we enjoyed watching the traffic flow around the square. Overall, food was very good (a little heavy on the balsamic vinegar, but not horribly). We really enjoyed their craft beers, and the service was very good. No real complaints. It is a little on the pricey side, for what it is, but it's still a nice way to spend an evening. I'd give them a 5 star rating if their pricing was a little...
Read moreWe have been regular patrons for years and hopefully our experience on Father’s Day was a one time occurrence, but it was not acceptable. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. We had a long wait before the server took our order. Then we had an almost 30 minute wait for our order to arrive. Our avocado crab omelets were missing a key ingredient…avocado. My husband (the guest of honor) ordered a shrimp salad croissant…..About 3 tablespoons on a dinner roll sized croissant….no side, for $18….and it wasn’t that great. Then, no one noticed we were finished for another long interval. We had a 6 year old, 9 year old, and a 1 year old with us and their behavior was exemplary considering the boring long waits. Since we promised them desserts for being so good, we had to wait another excruciatingly long time for them to come (even after I alerted the hostess). There were only 2 servers for the entire dining room. In the end, they comp’d the kids’ desserts and I tipped the usual 20% (not the server’s fault…they were short staffed and he showed up) but the experience has...
