This was our second time at Blue Point. The first time was incredible hence the reason we went back. I am hoping that last night was just an off night because the experience was just not good. Got seated right away, we did have reservations, basket of cornbread and one roll brought to the table. Waitress came over , very nice, huge smile on her face, and took our drink order, then we waited a good amount of time for the drinks. While we waited the waitress came back over and took our order not seeming to notice that we did not have drinks yet. Husband ordered the seafood fra diavolo, waitress had to check on the specials menu to see what it came with, I ordered the prime rib medium rare. I am a bit picky when it comes to prime rib, besides my own i have only had it 2 others places that wowed me. But the posts on their FB made it look delicious so i took a chance. Drinks finally came and another basket of cornbread and a roll. Dinner came, first my husbands then the server went back for mine. As soon as she put it on the table i knew it was overcooked for my liking. I saw the owner of the restaurant look over and i flagged her over, immediately she could see that it was overcooked and apologized, not longer after she came with a new one and again apologized saying they had new staff serving. It was just okay, not a whole lot of flavor, cooked more medium then medium rare. The roasted veggies were awesome! Hubby really enjoyed his seafood fra diavolo. Now for the most disturbing part, i was done with my meal, got a box to go. My husband however was still eating his when the waitress asked if we wanted desert, he had a good amount of food left on his plate and was still eating. We said no then she promptly brought the check over, again he was still eating! Not much longer after that she came and asked if the check was all set, nope not done eating, then another staff person came over and tried to take the check! Again not even done. As my husband was putting the last forkful in his mouth one of the staff came over and immediately took his plate! Seriously!!! Started feeling rushed yet there were plenty of tables open. As we were finishing our drinks and thinking about getting the desert drink they came over at least 3 times for the check. Very disappointed by this . We will give them another chance again hoping this was just...
Read moreThis was our 2nd time. Last time we didn’t have reservations and waited one and a half hours understandable it’s was prime dinner time and small venue with limited seating. Food and service was great for waiting so long. This time I called and made reservations for 6pm. We arrived at 5:55p and didn’t get sat until 6:45p. Meanwhile people without reservations were told they were next. It was only until I questioned our name on the list we were then sat. It was apparent we were forgotten. The owner informed us salads/soups would be on the house. I order clam chowder and it was gross. I love clam chowder. My husband tried it annd his face said everything. This is a man that eats everything, He took one spoonful and that was it. I ordered blackened salmon and my husband had Portuguese steak. The salmon tasted salty and burnt. The Portuguese steak was good. Ots extremely loud in there. My husband asked the waitress to repeat the options for sides a few times. During our meal there was another table playing cat sounds on their cell phone. This happened for over 5 minutes and nobody said anything. If I’m paying almost $100 for dinner I would hope we could enjoy ourselves and have a conversation without say “what?” Our waitress was attentive always thinking a step ahead. We never had to wait for anything with her. We received the bill and our soup and salad were still on the bill. So clearly there was no communication with the owner and waitress. This will be our last time. It’s loud and they are too busy trying to accommodate everyone that they lose track of the quality of service and only care about...
Read moreWhat a blast from the past. Nestled in the sleepy town of Acushnet, MA, this eatery has been around forever. While there's not much to do in Acushnet there sure seemed to be a lot of hungry people at the Blue Point on a mid-Sunday afternoon. With ample off street parking we were seated within a minute in a crowded but comfy dining space.
Our waitress was a bit overwhelmed at times with the amount of tables she was handling but our party of 4 got everything we ordered and then some. (Cups of chowder came out as bowls and the single roll we requested turned into a basket of rolls and cornbread.) The drinks were cold and the food was hot. Just the way it should be. The French meat pie was delish and the quahog that I had was the perfect amount of spice with visible bits of linguica in it. If you've never been, give it a try. There seemed to be a lot of locals there, and that's a good sign of reliable food. With the amount of choices out there quality consistency is key!
I'd bill this more of a diner / family restaurant and not a sports bar because the place wasn't littered with big screen tvs you see at most places giving the opportunity for people to talk and focus on each other instead of whatever is on a TV.
I'll have to remember this place next time I'm in the mood for some reasonably priced comfort food. I was a food critic years ago and I would have given this a "Strong Recommendation". Keep up the good...
