Polo's has been here for as long as I can remember. It's always been a constant, popular landmark... and pretty much everyone loves it
We had not been to Polo's in a long while, so we decided to go, and have a quick lunch. The decor is a somewhat out-dated, moderately dusty hodgepodge of once-stunning colors, Gothic lighting, heavy wooden seating, and gloriously garish wrought iron.
But the FOOD... ohhhh the food.... was a heavenly mix of authentic old-school Mexican, laced with a few modern short-cuts. And right up front, as soon as you walk in the door, you'll see them making their handmade flour tortillas. Let's just honor that little tidbit with a moment of reverent silence....... wipes tear of joy
Ahhh..... And then the desserts. Holy moley... I had forgotten what a religious experience their fried ice cream and sopapillas were.
And for both me and my husband to get completely, hopelessly STUFFED... was $26. TWENTY-SIX DOLLARS, Y'ALL.
If you're all about ambiance, environment, and "the total experience" - - you might be slightly disappointed. But if you love Mexican food, and you're ready to unbutton your jeans... Polo's is your new...
Read moreWe dined there this afternoon (8-21-21) following a funeral. We stood at the front of the restaurant for 15 minutes before being seated. By that time, 10 other people had come in after us and stood there waiting. No one welcomed us. No one apologized for the wait. No one cared we were there. Numerous employees saw us waiting, but they ignored us. We considered seating ourselves, but every table we looked at was dirty. We would have left, but my 84 yr old mother was tired and sat down at a dirty table just to rest. She was hungry and having difficulty walking, so just as we were about to leave, they FINALLY seated the 5 of us. The service was poor. Had to ask for extra silverware, which took forever to get. Had to ask for refills on drinks, which took over 5 minutes to get. No one checked on us after serving out me meals. Had to flag down the waiter, who looked annoyed and put out that he had to do his job. We heard good things about this place, but while we waited, we read online reviews, which weren’t very flattering, which turned out to be very accurate. And the food was mediocre. Will never go back. I don’t...
Read moreThis used to be my absolute favorite mexican restaurant. I haven't got to eat there in about 6 months. Until today.... wish I never wasted our time in going. The absolute worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant so far. In 50 min we only received drinks and chips and salsa. Never got our queso that we asked for in the beginning. Never received our straws. The waitress never came to check on us. We also asked for a high chair before we got seated I waited 15 min then had to get up and ask for a high chair as well. So after 50 min of crappy "service" we left. We had an appointment to get to and who knows how long our food was going to take to actually make it to the table since we already waited 50 min for the worst service I...
