I was going to give this place a perfect 5 stars but because of Salli I didn't. I broke down Saturday night and have eaten here three times in two days. The ladies on Sunday were so lovely I even purchased a 17 dollar candle. I love the atmosphere and the food is so good. The coffee is amazing and the burgers are the best. I had two of them. I checked out of my room on Monday and went one last time to try their breakfast. Unfortunately I got Salli as my server. I could tell right away she wasn't a friendly person because I study body language courses and have understanding of what a positive mental attitude looks like as Napoleon Hill taught. I asked her if the scrambled eggs were wet and she said yes so I proceeded to order them with my breakfast meal. She came and asked me how everything was and before I could even tell her she was walking away She is not very aware and very much needs to practice mindfulness I told her the eggs were dry but if they give me one extra egg over easy to drench in my hash browns that I would be satisfied. She brought me my check and I told her I needed more coffee. I noticed that I was charged 1.79 for one egg. I messed up the merchant copy doing calculations so I asked her if the customer copy would be acceptable or do they need to reprint it. She asked why? I told her that she charged me for the extra egg so I calculated it out from the final which was still more than the bill but it meant a lesser tip for her She then aggressively shook her head and told me I asked for the egg so I had to pay for it. She asked me what place would you go to that wouldn't do that.. (paraphrasing). I said I'm from NJ and we have many restuarants so I've eaten at many places and this is the first time this was an issue. She then said in her exact words at 12:47 PM, "that explains a lot right there" in a very demeaning tone. Anyone who has studied speech realizes that words are only around 10% or less, body language is 50% and tone is approximately 40%. I recommend Salli to read the Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle and How to Win Friends and Influence People a timeless classic by Dale Carnegie. She is a rude person and has no business being in the service industry. I heard her and was so embarrassed at my table as she continued to berate me to the others at the cooks station shaking her head and rolling her eyes as she recounted the story and making herself out to be a martyr. What an absolute disgrace. I'm embarrassed for the Owners of such a marvelous establishment to have such a negative and nasty server...
Read moreThis was an AMAZING restaurant experience, especially since we picked it off Google while we were on a road trip because it was in the general area and time frame in which we wanted to stop and eat. It wasn't too busy; we weren't the only patrons (we've had that experience in the past), and we were greeted quickly and warmly. The menu was broad enough to be interesting but not so broad as to be overwhelming. Three of us eating, and we ordered a cheeseburger, a brisket sandwich, and chicken-fried chicken. I ordered vegetable beef soup as my side with the brisket, and wow! It was so delicious! Big chunks of meat and potatoes and carrots, obviously home-made, and even better, it was steaming, scalding hot, just the way I love it. (I hate tepid soup!) The brisket was excellent: tender, lean, good sauce. My husband could have made a meal of the cup of chili he ordered as the side to his chicken-fried chicken. The entree itself was great as well, with meaty chicken, fried just right and with a generous helping of mashed potatoes with copious amounts of very tasty gravy on them and the chicken. The cheeseburger and accompanying fries looked delicious and seemed very satisfactory to our 17-year-old grandson, who devoured it like you'd expect a young man his age to do. Then came dessert--home-made blueberry pie, warm, with lots of big juicy blueberries (not the jelly stuff like you usually get in restaurant pies), and finished off with cups of steaming, seemingly freshly-made, good coffee. The teenager had a root beer float that looked like I had made it in my own kitchen. The service was wonderful, warm, and friendly. We walked out of The Chuckwagon so thankful we'd chosen to stop there, and so wishing it wasn't hundreds of miles from our home. We'd certainly be regulars if we lived...
Read moreWe stopped for breakfast on our way to Des Moines after reading all the different good reviews. It was outstanding!
They have a full menu to order from at all times of the day. I always tend to like places that let you order breakfast whenever, but this place goes above and beyond and lets you order lunch/dinner at breakfast time for those odd like me. Most of us ordered breakfast in our group, but my kids wanted chicken strips and we all wanted to try the cheeseballs at 9:30am!
My meal of a bacon and cheese omelette, hash browns, and pancakes was enormous. The cinnamon rolls are huge and take up the entire plate.
I can't wait to go back and try the burger and fries. The fries are endless and are homemade and I have heard how great they are.
The place is also decorated nice with most of the items throughout the restaurant for sale.
Would highly recommend this restaurant to...
