We went here specifically to see and try out the salsa bar. After looking around, there was not a salsa bar or a different version of it like a tasting of the different salsas offered when you ordered.
The overall experience was much different than I expected. When you walk in, you go to the counter place your order. They ask for a tip at the counter which is odd considering you pick up your food at the counter and throw away your trash like you would do at any other fast food type of place that does not ask for a tip. I was also expecting a lively environment but it was the same as a fast food place nothing too exciting or lively about it. It was quiet expect for the few other people at the other tables talking. There was plenty of seating and space to move around. Maybe we went on an off peak time?
The menu did not include a kids menu so children need to order from the main menu. When we received the food, order of cheese quesadillas with beans and rice ($10.99) and one birra taco ($4.99) and one barbarboca taco ($3.99), it all looked good. The two cheese quesadillas came with two salsas each. The red salsa is mild and the green is spicy. They were both very good. The tacos were wonderful but a little on the smaller side. I will say I would have hoped for a little bigger portion since it seems the amount of money paid isn't the amount of food was received but I understand it is inflation. We each ordered water which was free and the total was $21 and some change.
Overall I would go back and now I know...
Read moreI'm sorry but this place was a total bust for me. With all the amazing Mexican food around Chicago area it's a shame some places want to charge so much for mediocre food.
First off the prices are crazy high, especially for the quality of food you get. $11.49 for the SMALLEST burrito with almost no meat inside is insane to me. The size of the burrito was a joke, it's a queen size burrito for 7.99 at any restaurant out there. Not to mention, there was basically 1 taco worth of meat in the burrito, I am not joking, half of the entire burrito was only lettuce and sour cream, no meat. I've never had a burrito so empty before, especially for 11.49? They should be ashamed trying to serve this kinda mess to people. Complete rip off. The Steak, was also not real steak, carne asada or skirt steak, it was just some cheap beef steak. Now the taco dinner? 2 small tacos with rice and beans for 11.49? Where do these prices come from?
Now comes the Elotes, worst Elotes I've ever had. The corn was hard, not fully cooked and of course overpriced too. I don't understand, it's not hard to make good food for a good price people.
Lastly, the last time I was at any restaurant where there was NO pop refills was probably 15 yrs ago. Like seriously? It costs cents for a refill. Just so much wrong going on here.
Nothing at all authentic or good about this place. Probably 5,000 other better Mexican restaurants in the area with a better...
Read moreI went here for lunch with people from work and I had the steak taco platter. The food came out fast so that was great! The food wasn't too bad either. It was the about the equivalent of something you'd get at your local Chipotle. The food was expensive! I was expecting a lot more food for $9! The meal came with two tiny tacos with a few cubes of steak in each, a small spoonful of beans, and a small spoonful of rice. Also there was no chips and salsa for dine in eaters. What kind of Mexican restaurant doesn't serve chips and salsa to dine in guests? Needless to say I left pretty hungry, which is not something that happens often at most Mexican restaurants. The food and "hot" sauces were also pretty bland, but I suppose for the area the restaurant is in it works fine. I'm used to Mexican food where the flavor has a lot more kick, this place was more of a mild whisper, which some folks might like. All in all if you looking for Mexican food that is a step up from Taco Bell, but nowhere near as good as the more authentic Mexican places, then you'll be able to tolerate it. Honestly I would never go here by myself. In the future I'll only go if the group decided it was where they...
