Great ice cream at a great location!
They also have cakes and many many types of candy for sale. I'd argue it's actually half ice cream shop, half candy shop.
Ice cream is $4.00 straight for 1 scoop in a cup. They use compostable cups, which I am thankful for. Two scoop in a cup is $5.00. I believe it's one dollar extra for a cake cone, and two dollars extra for a waffle cone. There is another cone, a sugar cone, which I don't believe costs any extra. i could be wrong on that detail however.
You can't go wrong with their flavors, but I know that they don't make them homemade at the location. However, they do make waffle cones I believe.
Some nice miscellaneous items as well: Nitro Coffee, sundaes, lattes, other coffee items.
Everyone who comes will find something they want.
The spot is great because Downton Afton is a charm on it's own. If you have kids or big groups, there is a nice park right across the street. It has swings, slides, a basketball court, etc. Very nice. There are also really clean public bathrooms at the park too (As in, one of the cleanest recreational public bathrooms I have ever seen.) However, these bathrooms do close at around 8pm I believe, which is a downer if you are there and really need a bathroom. Selma's does have bathrooms, but their bathrooms are closed during COVID-19.
The location is also amazing for a second reason, Selma's is right on the river. Just behind Selmas, you will see a tree line. To the right of Selma's there is a sign saying "Steamboat Park." I don't know why, but in all my years living in Afton, I never paid attention to, or read this somewhat obvious sign. There is a small parking lot and everything for the "Park." But I wouldn't call it a park, it's more of a beach. great place. The floorbed is a bit rocky or muddy in areas, but overall is a stunning (and low traffic) beach to go to. Icecream and a walk on the beach? Yes please.
Sometimes, if you're lucky, the BBQ food truck will also show up outside. Now that's a treat! An independent (and I believe local) company pulls into the driveway for Selma's, and offers some tasty meals. There are ribs, shredded pork sandwiches, etc. I got a pork sammy for $5.00! And it was delicious, they also gave me enough meat for a whole other sammy, so I brought it home and used it the next day as well. Great value.
If you have further questions don't hesitate to call the place! They answer right away and are very considerate.
Have a great day! Hope this...
Read moreDisappointed about customer service. I take my family to Selma's at least 2 times a week and tonight we went again. We all know their ice cream is not cheap so after spending $27.00 on 4 portions of one scoop of ice cream in the cup and a candy we should be able to enjoy it. My son got birthday cake flavor that has sprinkles in it. He didn't have to try it because he knew what to expect. We went outside to enjoy our night and his ice cream had no flavor at all. All you can taste is sprinkles that has no taste because it's just sugar. I told him to go inside and ask the girls to give him a scoop of a different flavor. My son came back embarrassed and humiliated because they denied his request. I believe it's ridiculous and terrible customer service and that's how you loose customers. The quality of the product was bad tasteless and plain and you should have fix it right there no questions asked. My son had to pay another $5.00 and stay in line 3 time to get the ice cream he actually enjoyed. Not sure if management is aware of their staff actions so I hope my review will help you in your additional training of how to treat customers and what to do in the...
Read moreIf it's hot out, even if it's not, take a nice drive to the small downtown of Afton Alps and go enjoy some delicious ice cream at Selma's!
All kinds of creative ice cream options and during my most recent visit with my family and friends of ours, it again didn't disappoint. I don't remember all of the flavors that all of us ordered, but I do remember the following and I'll hit on mine because it was probably my favorite flavor yet;
Yippee Skippee, a bunch of stuff included, but worth getting once you see the description yourself.
Strawberry, which my little buddy destroyed!
Makinac Island Fudge was purchased by one of my neighbors and it looked awesome.
Fat Elvis is what I ordered and it was awesome!
The Fat Elvis is indeed a must get! Starts off with banana flavored ice cream, mixed with chunks of peanut butter and chocolate chips. It WAS awesome and I would seriously recommend this to everyone.
The place is always comfortably packed and you're able to get in and get out just fine. All kinds of chairs and plenty of shade to sit and just enjoy...
