OKAY, so the five stars wouldn't be about ambiance. But it's about EVERYTHING ELSE that is more important! Give me tablecloths and fine china with moderately good food, and I will RUN to Nicky's Pizza every time, even with their vintage tables and modest decor. It's clean and comfortable enough. So...
First of all, the food is incredibly delicious and memorble. The pizza sauce is so amazing I want to go back for all of their pasta dishes. Everything is homemade, and I think they must be hiding an Italian grandmother back there somewhere, cooking up an authentic savory storm. The crust is fabulous, including their cauliflower crust. No pizza in the area even comes close to being this good on quality products (NO CANOLA EVER), taste, and preparation.
Second, we tried the homemade clam chowder. Wow. If this is the example of New England chowder, it ROCKS.
Third, this place gives family-owned and family-run a good name. Nicky hires his family. Tony, his son, and the spokesperson at the counter, couldn't be friendlier or more efficient. You feel like family even as a customer. He will chat, but his eye is always scanning, making sure every order is perfect. And by the time he introduced me to Giani, Pat, Enzo and problably someone i missed (maybe that grandmother), I was sure it was a happy family. It says something about a man whose relatives want to work with him.
We haven't indulged in fried pickles, poutain, fried dough, or much else--but we will. I don't know why, other than the 8 mile drive, I don't go here more, but I will now that I have re-visited and recalled how good it all is--and very affordable!
They only deliver in Agawam and Feeding Hills--not Enfield sadly, and they only take cash, so we imagine that is one reason their prices have stayed so low.
Try Nicky's Pizza. It's a...
Read moreMy husband, daughter and I decided to give this place a try after leaving Six Flags.
We entered the parking lot and figured they must be decent as there were quite a few vehicles there. When we entered the facility we were welcomed with a line of people. We waited patiently for our turn only for when we finally step up to the counter the guy taking orders interrupts us starting our order to call the next person in line up to the counter. He proceeded to give the customer behind us a couple of boxes of pizza and have a little chat while we continued to wait patiently.
Now I don't know about you... But anywhere I've ever been, the restaurant will generally serve the very next customer in line. I understand it's minute, but my family and I were hungry and it's not as though our order was in the process of being made.
When we finally got to order, we ordered a Party Pizza with 1 topping, a Steak Bomb Grinder, grabbed 1 bottle of soda and asked for a pitcher of water... Upon asking for the water I had made it clear that we were very thirsty as we'd been out I'm the sun all day... He acknowledge me and said it'd be right out. We waited about 10 minutes for the grinder to come out and when it did we had to ask again for the water. He went back and grabbed the water... normally places serve drinks prior to food but what do I know?
About 5 minutes after the grinder, our pizza finally comes out... let's just say we weren't impressed. it was very bland. The grinder was absolutely delicious though!!
Personally I don't think I'll bother going back for pizza... Maybe for the grinder or...
Read moreI Always pass by this place when going to and from 6 Flags so I figured why not stop to grab a quick slice. The slices were HUGE which answers why they're $3.50 a piece. As excited as I was, the cheese wasn't mozzarella or at least it wasn't good mozzarella. Hamburg wasn't Hamburg...more like sausage. Mushrooms were from a can. Basically the only thing fresh on the combo pizza was the green peppers. The most important thing I noticed was the pepperoni tasting a bit sour - spoiled really. I had to spit it out immediately. Seems like it's been left out of the fridge between pizzas or something. I was so turned off by it that I couldn't eat the pizza at all. Such a shame. I approached the counter service members and let them know in a "just in case" kind of way. I didn't embarrass anyone. I've worked in food service so I maintained a respectful demeanor. He was defensive and said that the pepperoni "hasn't been left out but does sit in this bowl" that he admittedly pointed to on the counter. My point exactly. It's summer time and it's hot. Sure, keep it in a bowl but the bowl should be in the fridge. Won't be stopping by again. 6 Flags seems to be this place's only...
