A few years back I mentioned that I read an article online about the 10 best pizza places in Alabama. I made it part of my bucket list to eat at as many of these as I could. Trattoria Pizza and Italian is the second restaurant from the article that I was able to cross off my to do list.
My phone was nearly dead when we got there so I wasn't able to take any pictures, unfortunately. But I have to say that I loved the outdoor dining area although ultimately, the rest of my party decided to dine indoors. The seating arrangements were spaced appropriately according to the current Covid-19 protocol and as there were 5 of us, we sat in the back room with the Golden Tee 2018 and other arcade machine that had multiple games on it. There were also a couple of TVs behind me, but I didn't get to watch them any. The decor presented a laid back, casual vibe while also giving off a local flavor.
The menu said their Garlic Ballz are "world famous" but nobody wanted to order any with me, so we got the bread sticks with alfredo for dipping and the garlic cheese bread with marinara sauce. The bread sticks and alfredo were good, but y'all, that marinara is to DIE for! In fact, my dad liked it so much he poured what was left on his pizza when it came out! The marinara garnered praise from everyone at the table except my son, and that's only because he's nonverbal and didn't actually eat any of it. (Maybe someday, buddy...)
We ordered a large pizza, and if you've read any of my reviews you know what we got on it: pepperoni and extra sauce. When it came out, it was thinner than I expected, but the sauce and cheese extended almost all the way to the edge of the crust and it smelled delightful! It was cut into 12 pieces, which at 3 each (Boo doesn't eat pizza...yet...) was plenty for all of us after the appetizers. The crust was crispy, just the way I like it. The cheese was perfectly blended and the sauce was scrumptious. The only minor concern I had was that I didn't really feel like there was quite enough sauce, especially after asking for extra. (Dad obviously didn't have that problem as he covered his with marinara.) But overall it was still fantastic and worthy of 5 stars.
Kenzie was our server who also doubled as the bar tender. She was attentive and on the spot with a refill or anything else we needed and we never had to ask. She anticipated our needs and met them before we knew we even needed anything.
Trattoria Pizza and Italian gets the JWT Dirty Napkin of Approval, so be sure to drop in and give them your business. I promise you...
Read moreI cant say enough good things about this place, its staff, the food and the cleanliness. My job has me traveling all the time and we always look on Google or ask locals where the best local eatery is. Well, Trattoria Pizza stood out to us.
Arrived at 1245pm and there were still plenty of vehicles in the lot (good sign #1). Walked in and was greeted politely by the bartender/server, she was running the front solo and doing a great job (good sign #2). I then had a question about the size of the pizzas and the cooking staff was very helpful in my inquiry (good sign #3). The final good sign for me was when I looked up and saw a nice shiny score of 97 on the Health Inspection!!! IM SOLD at this point. We ordered the Insalata Caprese and a medium "Hot Owa" pizza. Both were extremely delicious. The pizza crust was cooked wonderfully with a crisp, yet tender finish. Every component of the meal was spot on.
I will be back when in the area and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this restaurant to ANYONE passing through the area! A++ service today...
Read moreMy wife and myself went here on 12/9/23. Usually have great food as they did this time but they were short staffed. No big deal they had 1 younger guy that was busting his tale (Carson i believe). They called help in but here's the bad part. To hear the i guess was the manager talk to him the way she did and the help she called in to talk to him the way he did both in front of customers. No need to drop the F bomb to a kid that's busting his tale to take care of everyone. We don't live in Spanish Fort but we drive from near Atmore to eat here on a regular basis and no we didn't finish our meal we left and will never be back. Only reason service got a 5 star is because of the young guy. Food got a 1 because i have to take it home to heat it up due to the vulger language by staff. P.S. hope this finds its way to Carsons parents they did a great job raising him because if they would've talked to me that way we probably would've tore up a...
