Excellent choice when having pastry and bread cravings. The bread is exceptional (rustic cob a favorite). The bread had a well-developed crumb structure, lots of differentiation of air pockets and a tender texture. It is excellent plain, toasted, and would recommend pairing with a high quality jam.

The pastries are very good. The stand out was the AK blueberry scone - exceptional - potentially the best scone I have ever had! The exterior had a good bake, some crunch and then the inside was soft, moist and absolutely perfect. Paired beautifully with an americano. This is a must have.

Another exceptional item is the blueberry and chamomile cake. The blueberry and chamomile flavors are well balanced. The cake itself has an excellent crumb, great flavourful. The icing is just enough, supporting the natural flavors without becoming overwhelming.

Chocolate chip cookies are the puffy version (i.e. baking soda or powder rising agent). The croissants are very good with a light flaky crust and a soft, pull inside. Today's lacked the usually buttery-ness that I enjoy; they were great with jam. The texture worked better with the...

First pulling in I didn't know what to expect, but a second through those doors I instantly knew what I was in for. I loved that I was able to see the whole kitchen process from the front counter, with that tight kitchen the place must demand perfect teamwork from everyone working there. After tasting their creations, its apparent that they do work BETTER than a well-oiled machine. The Peanut butter cookie sandwich was AMAZING. I would also like to note that the Tomato Soup was one of the most delicious soups I have ever eaten. In regards to the eating and waiting areas, I liked that there are toys and magazines all around the restaurant, it was certainly a good distraction for my 18 Month old. Overall I would put Fire Island Rustic Bakeshop down as a must visit place for any visitors...

Fantastic, friendly service! Warm, inviting atmosphere, though small. Each bite was on point! The salted carmel tart was a symphony of flavors!! The crunchy pecan crust balanced well with the gooey house-made carmel and decadent chocolate. I appreciated the touch of fancy Maldon pyramid-shaped salt flakes on top. Biting into the crisp yet fluffy croissant was as satisfying to my ears as it was my taste buds. The teas were good, and I appreciated the raw unfiltered honey available to stir in- as well as the assortment of Alaskan-inspired kids books available to look at while dining in. It's apparent that great care goes into the details...

Ever since I discovered it, I've never come to Anchorage without visiting Fire Island Bakery. I've always gone to the K Street location though. I finally found myself at this location one morning, and the assortment was pretty similar. It's a similar type of environment too, with a decent amount of sitting space, a few outlets, and a great coffee shop next door. I don't think there's WiFi, so it's not a space to go work. I can rant about Fire Island all day. Pastries (sweet and savory), bread loaves, sandwiches (breakfast and lunch), soups.. everything I've had has been excellent. Do yourself a favor and hop on the bandwagon!

Excellent little neighborhood bakery, part of the growing Fire Island family - there are now three locations. The original and largest location is near downtown off G street. This spot is smaller, you might call it cozy. The baked goods are among the best in town, the cinnamon rolls (weekends only at this location) are my favorite. They have coffee, but not a full blown espresso bar. Not a lot of seating, peak times can be crowded. Not really an ideal spot to plug in your laptop and get work done, although I'm sure you could if you wanted to. It's a better place to just relax with some good stuff.
