I would never say this unless it was justified, but eat before you come here. I ordered a beer and a glass of water and it took fifteen minutes to get it, and was told they were basically almost out of everything except for a few beers on tap. We arrived before the dinner crowd and we had to wait over thirty minutes for our food while we watched people that arrived after us receive their meals and their desserts. Our waitress finally came out and apologized and said that our meal tickets never printed out to the cook so she had to resubmit it. Ok fine. Whatever. When our burgers and fries finally arrived it was very hard to justify paying $18 for what was on my plate (attached photo). We overheard a server telling a very disappointed customer that they were out of cheesecake and the customer said they drove all the way there just for the cheesecake. As far as the food goes, the few fries that we got were very salty and soggy. My burger tasted like it had rancid cheese on it but I had ordered pepper Jack so I couldn’t figure out where that flavor was coming from. My friend ordered blue cheese on his burger so I feel they may have accidentally put blue cheese on mine then realized the mistake and scraped it off and added the pepper Jack. That’s the only way I could justify that taste. I ate half of it because I was so hungry. I guess you are paying for the view. I’ve had way better burgers and fries in the bush for $20.
I gave two stars only because the front employees were so kind and had smiles on their faces. Obviously my food experience is a result of poor management but the employees are doing the best that they can with what they have to deal with so don’t take it out on them.
I would have been more than happy paying $30 for a beer and a burger if it was served timely and tasted good. If you decide to eat here just lower your expectations so you’re not too...
Read moreWe just ate at Ravens Perch last night, 7/10/22, and had a great experience. They do have really good food and the setting is pretty amazing, not to mention the entertainment of watching helicopters take off and land loaded with happy tourists enjoying our amazing state.
The lodge is focused on tourism, and the restaurant is part of that. The business is seasonal so I would guess not easy keeping great staff from one year to the next. We ate dinner there 3-4 times last year and once so far this year. The staff are friendly, accommodating and overall do a good job. The food is fresh, well prepared and the menu is creative. We were there Sunday night and I am not sure if they were out of anything but I would guess that certain times of the week they could be as they try to local source as much as possible and they are a bit of a drive.
Last night besides the menu they had three specials. Our party ordered the bacon wrapped filets, the coffee encrusted ribeye, and the halibut with the pineapple habanero pepper sauce. All delicious. Only caveat was the ribeye was almost, very slightly almost, bordering more medium than medium rare - but so flavorful no one complained. The sides were excellent and well complimented. Only ding, we did order a couple more waters and it did indeed get forgotten and did not get for a good ten minutes. Our side salads came a little late also. To be fair, they were busy, operate with one very busy server and had two good size tables at once, ours being one.
Lastly, it would be nice if somehow they could offer bread. I assume they do not have a baker but even purchasing from a local bakery and then ask diners if they would like bread, hence not as much waste. Maybe serve with small dish and olive oil. Overall we had another great evening out, love the drive, the food, and the setting, and look forward to dining at Ravens...
Read moreTook my sister, who was visiting from the East Coast, to Raven's Purch, in July. Food appeared to be tasty and a huge quantity; then I saw 'movement' in my food. I scooped out the bug and brought it to the attention of our server. He didn't offer to get me a new plate in fact he stopped servicing our table at that point. He ignored us for the remainder of our time there and didn't even offer to top off our water glasses. I had paid earlier (to avoid a fight over the cheque with my sister) and so when my sister was finished w her meal, we left. It was awkward and upsetting. I contacted the restaurant when I got home to Anchorage and left a message for the Manager. A person, supposedly the Manager, contacted me a few days later and apologized and said he wanted to treat my sister and I to a multi course dinner on the house. He said, an Email invitation would be sent but it never arrived. I texted the "Manager" and explained the Email didn't show up and asked for a simple refund. He texted me a few times over a couple days saying he was refunding me. Just like the"Email invitation" that was supposedly sent, the refund was never issued. I texted him back days after but he never responded. Lived in Ak for 20 years; will never be going back...
