La Chancla — Restaurant in Albuquerque

I’m a local musician and have had the pleasure of playing here multiple times. The shows are mostly all ages. All music genres are welcome but mostly punk / metal / indie / noise. It has a single bathroom that has worked and been clean when I was there. Owner Bethany is professional, friendly and fair. Staff has always been professional and friendly. Shows are often in the evenings but they have been known to have matinee shows. There is a McDonald’s a singes throw away. There is a taco spot walking distance north from there. There is an amount of homeless / seedy element on 4th street however I’ve never seen unprovoked violence. Use caution. If you’re a touring band do not leave anything of value in your vehicle unattended. Use a club or wheel lock—Abq is notorious for stolen vehicles. The sound is great for what the venue is and I have enjoyed shows through it but if you’re a a band with a lot of inputs without amps, contact their booking with your input list. I just stopped in to The Chancla and had THE best lox I’ve ever had in my life! They serve it on a latke and a bed of fresh greens, and the sauce is to die for. And the tables all have fresh pressed flowers displayed, so cool. This cozy mom and pop restaurant is an Albuquerque gem and I highly recommend it. La Chancla is the best DIY space in Albuquerque. It prioritizes local artists and musicians that are frequently overlooked by the stuffy galleries. It’s a safe space that the youths of Albuquerque are also able to come to and experience their local art scene.
