My husband is from El Salvador. I lived in El Salvador a couple of times and have visited more than 10 times. Pupusas are delicious but these were subpar. Every time we go eat pupusas, in the U.S. or El Salvador, I ask him to rate the pupusas from 0 to 10, 10 being so incredibly delicious, that we talk about them for years afterwards. We have only found 1 restaurant in the U.S. deserving a 10, and that was in Santa Fe. These pupusas were a 3. We were not at all impressed. They were mostly masa (dough) that wasn't cooked through, with a scanty amount of cheese. The ones that they claimed were loroco, had a grand total of 2 pieces of loroco. We are pretty sure that the beans were from a can. I would give the chicken and shrimp pupusas a 5 because they had a good flavor but they didn't have much cheese. The curtido was okay and the salsa was watery. The bathroom looked clean but it stunk and the ceiling was falling in from assumed water damage. It is not a place that we...
Read moreWent here for the 1st time today. I have never tried pupusas and decided to stop since I pass this restaurant often. I ordered a pupusa de chicharron and I requested to add green chile and also ordered a pupusa de res (shredded beef). Ordered to go. When I got home anxious to try I ripped a piece of the 1st pupusa with chicharron and green chile and was very disappointed to see that it was all cornmeal and had VERY LITTLE meat plus it didn't even look like chicharron or taste like it and it had jalapenos not green chile. That made me sad but I still had a second chance with the res pupusa. Well I tore a piece of that one too and once again VERY LITTLE meat plus under cooked so I had a mouthful of masa. If I had eaten there I would have asked for a refund and left. I would NOT go here again nor recommend this place. Not only because the food was not good nor worth the money but when I walked in the girls behind the counter looked at me very judgmental and I felt...
Read moreThis is the first time I ate a pupusa. They looked and smelled delicious! The two I tried were excellent. A friend of mine said these were the best pupusas in Albuquerque. After trying the pupusas, I believe him. I will be going there again and taking my family and extended family.
It looks like like a typical restaurant from Central America, which I thought was very cool!
When I was there, all the clientele were Spanish speaking which is a very good sign, in my opinion.
I am assuming they speak English, but I am not sure because we spoke Spanish to the waitress.
Just be aware, the food is Salvadoran, not Mexican or New Mexican. For example the horchata is in El Salvadoran style, not Mexican or New Mexican. It was excellent and I joined it a lot.
I will definitely going back again and taking family and friends.
I would highly recommend this restaurant if you want to try authentic...
