This is a normal jaunt of my for working remotely. Pro: -Atmosphere: Well-lit, very Scandy-inspired all white everything, seating broken up so never seems too loud (which I'm very sensitive to), reliable wifi - good for working (though maybe not taking meetings). Neutral: -Food n drink: I tend to get the salmon breakfast items when I do eat here. A bit pricey, but a nice, healthy meal that won't leave you overly full. From my experience, don't expect a lot of seasoning/flavor. Matcha lattes are good here. Mocha lattes are consistently grainy regardless of hot or iced (i.e., don't mix the mocha powder in enough). Oat milk drinks I've gotten tend to be too thick in texture (and I generally like slightly thicker drinks). Cons: -Temps: Always freezing between the A/C and fans that are constantly running - bring a jacket if you're planning on sitting more than a few minutes. Cafes that do this seem unwelcoming - as if to say, we want you here, we're just going to give you a mild case of frostbite if you stay more than 10 minutes :) Dear manager, please save yourself some $$ by not freezing me out! (Con turned pro - great place to duck out of the heat) -Customer service: There are some truly awesome folks working at this location (those that take your order have always been great!). Only had one bad experience in which my mocha order was mixed up one day (they gave me a small instead of large). When I mentioned this to the barista, the person said "well do you want me to make it a large? I mean, it's the same amount of espresso anyway" as if they didn't want to be bothered. I'm shy so said no, but that didn't leave a great taste in my mouth. I'm def no barista, but my understanding is that small latte beverages typically get one shot whereas larges get two? I don't expect groveling, but a "my b" or a smile or something would have also been appreciated given that I'm spending what I think we all can agree is a ridiculous amount of money for a beverage I can make (decently well) at home for under $1 (so I'm really paying to not sit at home talking to my cat coworker too much and to see some...
Read moreI really love the ambiance here and the food is very good. The ham and cheese quiche was delicious. However, when the server brought it out, it was a bit cold, unfortunately. But thankfully, a manager came to our table to ask if everything was good. I told him about the luke warm quiche and he kindly put in another order for me. The 2nd quiche was hot and delicious.
Later, I returned to the counter to order a coffee and the pistachio cherry tart. I received a number for my order and returned to my table. My coffee came out right away, but my tart didn't arrive until I asked about it. Evidently, the person who took my order was supposed to give me the tart right away at the counter as the pastries are located right there. No one made this clear, not even the lady who took my order. I eventually received my tart and it was quite delicious.
Overall, I really love the concept and ambiance, but the service has room for improvement.
I hope the management team is reading the customer reviews as many are accurate based on the experience I had today. PLEASE work out the kinks with service and ordering or this business will struggle after tourist season ends. There are too many other options in Alexandria for the locals to tolerate subpar service.
With all this being said, I will return for another visit. I know it takes time to get a restaurant up...
Read moreI recently visited Tatte in Old Town Alexandria, and unfortunately, the experience left me very disappointed. We ordered a pistachio latte and a mocha, and both drinks were deeply underwhelming. Instead of smooth, well-balanced flavors, they had an odd, grainy texture—as if oats or some other filler had been blended into them. The taste itself was surprisingly flat and flavorless, especially given the premium price point. For what they charge, one expects carefully crafted beverages with some finesse, but these felt poorly executed and not worth the cost.
The pastry we tried, a passion fruit krumbo, was equally disheartening. Rather than a delicate French-inspired dessert, it was essentially a mountain of whipped meringue with only the faintest spoonful of passion fruit hiding at the bottom. The presentation may have been ambitious, but the taste and composition were unbalanced, leaving us feeling misled and unsatisfied. Overall, Tatte’s Old Town location did not live up to its reputation. With so many wonderful cafés and bakeries in Alexandria, I would not recommend this one for those seeking authentic flavor, thoughtful preparation, or value for money. I will say that the staff was incredibly understanding when we asked for a refund as we could not...
