I am deeply saddened that your congregation would remove a reminder of the greatest general that ever was and our first President. I would love to sit in this spot. Your religion is about saving souls, George Washington saved lives. He lifted the early colonists to independence, including the Freeman AND Slave. It is an unfortunate practice we all agree, but destroy the remnant of George Washington should be illegal, if it is not. That seat is a National Treasure. Robert E Lee, on the other hand, was a traitor to the United States of America and I am a southerner. If you could alter your decision to remove Lee and NOT Washington I would and many others could understand this decision. We held our wedding ceremony at Christ Church this April 2024. Although we are not parishioners here, we were looking for an Episcopal church in the Old Town Alexandria neighborhood to hold our nuptial mass. The church was a pleasure to work with - from their primary coordinator Meredith to the organist Jason, everyone involved made it easy to plan the ceremony there. Even as non-members, we felt welcomed, and our guests did too. There are spacious sitting rooms for the bridal and groom's parties to wait before the ceremony. It is a gorgeous, historic church with beautifully-maintained grounds. Christ Church will always be a special place for us, and we wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone planning a wedding or even just looking for a church to visit...

I'm always welcome(d) to make a joyful noise on Sundays and be enthralled with weekly sermons of faith, hope and love. The historic significance of this treasured and iconic church in our nations history is one thing, but the shared values, belief system, morals and ethics is why I continue to attend Christ Church. I encourage anyone visiting Old Town to not only cherish the historic significance but also the spiritual legacy. Sit in Washington's pew, attend a service, sing a hymn or two and perhaps let your soul be filled with contemplative prayer for a moment.
