We were excited to visit the Outpost because we already love Valley Farms. We grew up in San Diego and remember our parents getting awesome food from Valley Farms for summertime bbqs and picnics. We also loved the traditions of visiting the Lagunas and staying in the cabins in the winter… We knew this was going to be good already and we’re so looking forward to new traditions with our kids here. I had just finished a mountain race in the area and we wanted to celebrate here! The staff was friendly and accommodating, the atmosphere is soooo cool, and the meals leave you so satisfied with life. I’ve come to know the owner of Valley Farms over the years. I caught him inside the restaurant… and amazing things first come from amazing people… heart and soul are genuinely poured into everything he does, and it’s really become a gift for us, the community. He has surrounded himself with a genuinely amazing group of people that make up the incredible atmosphere that is the Valley Farms Outpost. As a result, San Diego has an amazing place we can visit, share traditions, eat great food, and look forward to celebrating together! Everything about this place shines excellence - you’ll love it!

The quality is unmatched! I regularly buy my meat from Valley Farms market because of the incredible quality. They use that same mentality at the Outpost. Their brisket and tri-tip sandwiches are prime beef. Pulled pork sandwich was delicious as well as the Smashburger. My wife really enjoyed the Anapasta salad. And it doesn’t stop at their meat, the buns were some of the best, and their fries were extra crispy and I think they dusted them with meat candy. They have a full-service bar with a good selection of rotating beer taps. The setting is beautiful, tucked away in the woods on Mount Laguna. They have a patio for outdoor seating which is located next to the smoker. I was out checking it out and had a nice conversation with the guy taking the ribs off, everyone is super nice. The lodge has a very cool feel with oversized log tables and chairs. My only criticism is that the chair I sat in was too close to the table which is a log and my knees were pressed up against the underside of the table. If you’re going to Mount Laguna or Julian, take Old Sunrise Highway and stop by the outpost for a bite, you won’t be disappointed.

I heard about The Outpost by Valley Farm from some contractors at work. It did not disappoint. My wife and I have stopped by there twice now on motorcycle rides. My wife and I have tried four of their entrees and all of their sides. The only critique I have is for the beans and that's because I prefer more of a sweeter baked bean. But I find adding some of their barbecue sauce is all it needs! I've added a bunch of photos as it is a really cool environment. I love the old school tables with the huge slabs of wood. There's all sorts of trinkets and things. It really gives it that outpost look and really fits that mountain theme. I know my wife and I will be stopping by this place a lot in the future. We love going up and down sunrise highway on the bikes and the outpost is a wonderful spot for a break, some great eats, and some nice cold beverages. Speaking of the beverages, they had a full bar and they're more than happy to show you around if they're not super busy.

Been wanting to try this place for a bit, and the wait was well worth it. The vibe of this place reminded me of old-fashioned combined with Mountain Cabin look and feel. Being tucked in with the Cleveland National Forest, it adds a surreal forest-coutryside flair to it. Hospitality of the staff and pateons/customers was at-ease, friendly, and respectful. My party sat at the bar where we learned a bit after the person working the bar can food orders as well. The lady working the bar was very polite and attentive. If you rather sit at a table, the kitchen is to the left upon entering where food orders can be placed there. There are two bathrooms located to the side of the bar area.

Tried the Old Fashion and Whisky sour and these were mixed like they made at home. Smooth texture with flavor, and not an uncomfortable bitterness with it. Easily the best mixed drinks I've tried in a very long time.

As for BBQ that's why I was there. We ordered the brisket burger, tri-tip and pulled pork burgers. Each burger, the BBQed meats, were perfection. No need to include sauce, the meat is already tender with great seasoning. They do include a little bit of sauce but that's all that's needed. If there is a need for more BBQ sauce, ranch for fries, etc. there is a condiment and silverware station on the far wall between the bar and kitchen. We wanted to try the ribs but that'll be another trip to the Outpost later on.

The Outpost is a little bit of a drive if you are in the city area of San Diego. But if someone suggests BBQ I wouldn't mind the drive. Also a good trip, spot to visit if people are visiting from...

I brought my daughter up to see some snow for the first time in a few years and we had a great time playing in the snow. Our afternoon was almost ruined however when we stopped here for lunch. They were pretty busy, not a surprise because it’s the first real snow this year, and there was a line to the door. We were starving and there’s only one other eatery around so we decided to wait in the long line. First problem: there are no menus until you get to the front of the line, so no surprise, the line moved very slowly. When we finally got to front of the line to order at 1:05pm on a Saturday, the cashier brought out a sign that said “The Kitchen is Closed” and she said sorry but we’re short staffed. How can you stop taking orders at 1 on a Saturday without warning? How can you be short staffed on the first snow weekend of the year? Where are the owners willing to put in the time and effort to make your company successful? I will not be coming back to try the food, unfortunately, because it actually smelled really good. But the way you closed up was BS. Had to go down the road 30 minutes to Julian Pit Stop which had no line, food was pretty good and much cheaper, and it only took about 10 minutes to wait for the food. I would recommend skipping The Outpost when...
