We were in Marathon for 10 days and although we usually stay at the hotel, they were booked but we found a great house about a half mile down the road. Ok. First. The bartenders know their drinks. I love Negronis and Last Words and I’ve been in huge cities where the bartenders don’t even know what these drinks are but these bartenders in a town of 400 people know. They have top shelf liquor!!!!! I’m a gin drinker and was super impressed. The bartenders are personable. Rebecca, Taylor, Marcus, and Peyton were incredible. Rebecca was so sweet and kind and has such patience. The bar was busy and she doesn’t even stress. She always kept a smile. The nachos were out of this world. Everything is fresh!! The bar is beautiful. There’s cowboys, upscale city slickers, and even Mexicans like me. Everyone is treated the same. It doesn’t matter how you dress. The guy in the Wrangler jeans could be a millionaire and you wouldn’t know it. I love talking to people there. You meet people from all over the world. This is truly one of the best bars in the world. Service and ambiance are perfect 10’s. I can’t wait to go back. I know we drank them out of Campari and Aperol. I had to switch to gin and tonics. If you are anywhere near Marathon Texas or even in Texas, make it a point to visit this place. I came from Ohio so that tells you how...
Read moreWe just started making the White Buffalo Bar a yearly stop for us on our way to Lajitas. Unfortunately we won’t be returning. The atmosphere is amazing but the bar service was horrible. The female bartender who was working the evening of Dec. 27th needs to be taught customer service. Not only was she non welcoming when we sat at the bar, she was very rude to my husband when he asked for a second drink. Her response was, “it’s going to be a while, I’m having to make drinks for the restaurant as well”. We have NEVER had a response like this especially when it was obvious that the other bartender was making drinks for the wait staff. We patiently waited and she never made my husband his drink. She decided to stand back and have conversation with the other bartender while neither of them were making drinks. I’m sure it’s hard to staff restaurants and establishments in these remote locations, but I would think a place such as the Gage Hotel/White Buffalo Bar would do better in hiring who...
Read moreWe were looking forward to this place. We had been told that the burger here was the best a friend had ever had. Imagine our utter astonishment when we went in and told we couldn't be seated without reservations. We were directed to the bar, as we stood there lost not a single person on the staff said hello, can I help you, wait a minute. We left after making reservations. The next night we learned there are actually two establishments and the bar is were we could get a burger. I have to say the burger was excellent and may well be the best I have ever had, but the sad fact is 2 women in a bar that don't order drinks become absolutely invisible. The server more than once walked away while we were talking to her and had to ask for a check and then had to ask for her to take our payment. The food was great but I refuse to pay to be disrespected and will never return or...
