We booked Ambrosia for our family Thanksgiving dinner. We were excited for the menu…. Exactly what we were wanting. It was a limited and hefty priced prix fix menu, but it looked delicious. Menu offered two appetizer choices, a soup or salad choice, three entree choices that was to include six family style sides, and two dessert choices. Our reservations were for 7:15pm which apparently was the last slot for the evening. As we ordered, we were told that they were out of the dressing for the turkey and dressing. That was disappointing (who doesn’t want turkey and dressing on Thanksgiving). We were also told they were out of one of the two dessert choices. We opted for the filet for our main course. As our appetizer arrived (which was delicious) we were told that they were out of the soup, so our choice was salad or additional sides. My daughter opted for extra macaroni and cheese and I declined… a few minutes later they came out with some bisque … odd, but grateful for the effort. However, we were then told that they were out of macaroni and cheese. Ugh. Steak came out, which was good, but they were out of three if 6 sides. Then the kicker… they were out of the second dessert. They actually managed to find two pieces of pie (it was sad) but again, grateful for the effort, and then brought my daughter ice cream. Ok, well surely when the bill arrives, the manager will say “We apologize that we were out of a significant portion of your prix fix dinner, this is our first time doing this as a new restaurant and we obviously made a few errors in anticipating food quantities. We have discounted your dinner and hope you will give us another chance in the future. “. Ummm… no. When my husband brought it up, our waitress took it back to the manager. She returned, saying he took off two of our drinks. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I’ll say I am grateful for the small gesture, however I will also say that this was a huge missed opportunity for a manager to turn around a bad first impression of a new restaurant. Rather than leaving feeling like “wow, they had a rough night, but the food was good (what we actually got to try) and the manager made it right.” We left with, “I can’t believe we just spent $250 for a disappointing dinner for the three of us even with all of the mess… we won’t be returning there and definitely won’t recommend to...
Read moreUpdate: I received a very positive response from Ambrosia 30A management to my initial review below revised my review. I will be returning to Ambrosia on my next trip to Florida. I would recommend the restaurant.
This is my first restaurant review, and I didn't initially plan to write one. However, after the disappointing response from Ambrosia’s management and their lack of follow-up, I felt compelled to share my experience.
My family and I visited Ambrosia on December 8, 2024, to celebrate a birthday. It turned out to be a relatively slow evening, as only a few tables were occupied in the dining area. I’d like to begin by highlighting the positives. The NOLA Style Royal Reds were particularly good, and both my steak and my son-in-law’s steak were cooked well and flavorful.
Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the other meals at our table. My wife’s, mother’s, and daughter’s dishes—Taste of 30A, Charleston Shrimp and Grits, and Crab Stuffed Flounder—were all disappointing. Each of these entrees lacked seasoning and flavor, which is especially concerning given the reputation of this restaurant and its coastal location. All three added salt and pepper in an attempt to improve the taste, but it didn’t help much, and none of them finished their meals.
The service was also below expectations. Although it did improve somewhat over the course of the evening, the restaurant was nearly empty, with only two tables occupied. For such a quiet night, the service did not meet the standard one would expect at this type of establishment.
After our meal, I decided to call Ambrosia directly to express my concerns. I’m not one to write reviews lightly, so I hoped to speak with someone and address the issues. Unfortunately, the conversation was underwhelming. The manager on the phone seemed disinterested, offering only a brief acknowledgment that they appreciated the feedback and that he would inform the kitchen staff. He didn’t ask any follow-up questions, nor did he offer any kind of apology.
Overall, we were disappointed with our experience at Ambrosia. The food, service, and lack of a meaningful response from management left much to be desired. Given the reputation of this restaurant, I expected a far...
Read moreThis place is a must! I recently moved to the area and have fallen in love with the food scene, but Ambrosia definitely left an impression. My family and I got an appetizer to share, 3 entrees, and a dessert to end the experience. Our server Juan Carlos was very attentive, and made for a fun night.
Although it’s not pictured, we ordered the Angel Eggs and let me tell you- order them. The bacon marmalade is the perfect amount of Smokey and sweet, the shrimp is battered and fried to golden perfection, and the eggs themselves tie it all together.
We ordered the Surf and Turf, Lobster Agnolotti, and Crab Stuffed Flounder. Everything was delicious. We ended up just sharing our plates because we all wanted a piece of everything. I would say the Surf and Turf is a great bang for your buck, the Lobster Agnolotti filling was subtle and paired nicely with the red sauce, and the Crab Stuffed Flounder was so fresh and unlike anything I’ve had in the area.
The Crème Brûlée was comfortably shared between the three of us. The sugar was torched perfectly, and not too thick when it leaves that sticky residue on your teeth.
Overall definitely stop by! I’m excited to see what comes of Ambrosia.
EDIT: You can’t leave multiple reviews on an establishment, but I wanted to share my latest experience! My family and I were the first customers for their new brunch service, and while there’s a few things that can be workshopped we walked away happy and with a full belly. We ordered the 30A Breakfast, it’s the perfect spread if you love a little bit of everything. I opted for the pancakes, they were fluffy but a touch too brown. The eggs were perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the sausages were juicy and so flavorful. The only thing that I felt needed some possible workshopping were the garnishes/finishes and mini hashbrowns. The plate comes out being the same color, between the pancakes and the hash it’s all muted; I think some berries, a compote, maybe a bit of mascarpone would do wonders for the flavor and visual appeal. As for the hashbrowns they’re essentially tater tots- but for what they are I will say they are delicious. The staff are always so friendly and attentive, Grayson and Mitch were...
