I usually have great things to say about Denny’s. Good food, clean facilities, friendly staff, and you know what to expect. Nothing too fancy, but ultimately satisfying. However my experience at this particular location left much to be desired.
Should I find myself unable to make it home for a 34 hour reset at the end of a hard week, I’ll make a point to spend it at a Flying J with a Denny’s. Looking forward to a steak dinner brings a silver lining to not making it home. This particular experience was frustrating enough to not just make a rough day worse, but also ruin a decent day. And this was actually a great day, until after I parked.
First off, the guy serving me had no confidence at all. He was polite in a Sycophantic way, but was definitely more concerned with the attention of the other female employees than he was with my orders accuracy.
Secondly, the cause of the first issue led to the effect of the next. My steak was undercooked, very rare for a medium order. My mashed potatoes came in the form of potato wedges. With a side of gravy. I didn’t think you could mess up a mashed potatoes and gravy order before. This guy found a way. An undercooked steak isn’t that much of a big deal as long as it’s the correct type of steak I ordered. While I was ordering, I made a point of pointing to the “New garlic Sirloin steak” and said it out loud while pointing at it. No garlic on my bleeding steak whatsoever.
I had him correct the potatoes, but when I noticed the steak was also wrong when it was presented to me, I was honestly tired of correcting this absent minded kid to do his job correctly. So I just ate it anyway. It’s a good thing all my sides were in those fancy cups, along with my gravy on the side instead of on my potatoes. Because the blood spilled all over the rest of the plate. That would not happen with a medium rare, like I originally ordered. Cutting it was more difficult than normal too, considering he didn’t give me a steak knife either.
Upon payment, I already decided I wasn’t going to tip by then, but I noticed an extra cost on the receipt for the gravy. Gravy that comes with mashed potatoes. Luckily, the lady at the register fixed this issue.
Any one of these little annoyances isn’t enough to ruin a restaurant experience on its own. But add them together, and it’s enough to ruin a hard working truck drivers whole night. I looked forward to a quiet steak dinner to myself for several days. This kind of incompetence is frustrating and baffling. I’m now motivated to remember to not stop in Amarello with the exception for fuel and a restroom if absolutely necessary. I don’t want to spend another...
Read moreAfter driving 14 hours and having had nothing to eat, I was three minutes away from my hotel, and although I saw low ratings, I just had to stop in and order. I get to my hotel room and sit down excited to finally eat my food to find that most of it wasn’t even in the container to begin with. The french fries were not there at all the toast that they sent was already cold and hard, and my steak was pretty much basically rolled, which is not how I ordered it. When I called to try and make it right, then I have to go through a call center with people that don’t speak. Good English , and be transferred to the store that then I was disconnected from and had to start over. Just to be told that no there’s not a manager on duty until 4:30 AM. I know we can’t bring it to you but you can come exhausted and blurry eyed and we will replace it , hello no it’s 2 o’clock in the morning and I’m exhausted. Absolutely ridiculous and this is why I stopped going to Denny’s years ago. This lady at the front that handed me my food should’ve also checked to ensure that it was there. I shouldn’t have to look in the bag to be sure that what I ordered is there because that is assumption but that’s dumb people make me order food and pay for it that we actually expect to...
Read moreWe are team OTR drivers, I was looking forward to a sit down, not in a moving truck meal, that someone else cooked as we usually cook our own meals in the truck. We ordered a vege skillet and the nachos and lots of coffee. The nachos were good. The waitress was poor at refilling the coffee, we had to ask. The skillet she brought was the Supreme Green, NOT a vege skillet. By the time my correct order was brought my husband had completely finished his meal so we requested mine to go. So now not only did I not get to sit still to eat, the skillet was soggy. The potatoes and peppers were mushy. No compensation given other than an apology and the waitress' comment that "I guess that's what ya get for pulling an all nighter." Oh did I forget to mention she took our order without writing a thing down. Maybe listening skills and writing the order down would have prevented this mistake, as well as preventing a bad review and an unhappy customer that will not return!! Should have cooked in the truck!!!...
