Beautiful cafe with hit or miss service. Burgies North is a newer restaurant under the Burgies name that appears built-to-suit instead of being dropped into existing retail space. There is a nice outdoor space with a few tables. The “bar seating” as it were are strange chairs with little to no back support, almost encouraging slouching. The rest of the decor is fine. The visible kitchen space is very clean and taken care of.
Pesto eggs are the highlight of the food menu. The coffee and drinks are above average, usually.
Here is a thought exercise from the pages of preschool games: what is the difference between something that is hot and something that is cold? If you order a cold drink, should you expect it to be hot or cold when given to you? If you answered “cold”, congratulations. You are smarter than a Burgies employee! Be sure to hold up a sign reminding them of your order specifics, lest they somehow forget them even when you’re the only customer in the building. Is it closing time and they got it wrong? Too bad, it’s now too late to fix it because they really need to lock those doors and get rid of all those pesky customer types asking reasonable questions.
Still a good cafe, but if your server appears to not care about you and your needs, be prepared for a disappointment. Most of them are...
Read moreLove that we have a great coffee shop in North Ames now! Perfect location in this part of town and yummy coffee (it is expensive as others have pointed out, but if you want cheap go to mcdonalds...). It's a small building so there's not a ton of seating but they've added as many as they can and there's a variety of types of seating (small and big table, bar style seating, outdoor tables and chairs). They also just added umbrellas to all the outdoor tables which will really expand the usefullness of that eastern facing area in the mornings! There are tons of outlets everywhere, which is a rare treat! My only complaint is that the music is SO LOUD AND THUMPY. It's fine for studying because I can put headphones on to soften the blow, but it does make having a conversation with someone...
Read moreFirst time dining here and we were not impressed. The coffee was overpriced and unremarkable. I had a cappuccino and my friend had a black coffee. Paid almost $8 and they both tasted like airport kiosk coffee. Lack of seating is the worst problem this place has. The outdoor patio is on the east side of the building, so sitting there is uncomfortable most of the morning and day. And while there were several patio tables, only one had an umbrella to block the sun. Many patio patrons wanted to sit inside, but each indoor table was occupied by one person working on a computer for a couple hours. The large table in the back that seats 6-8 had one guy sitting there with his laptop. When I brought these issues to the barista’s attention, she offered...
