Casey's — Restaurant in Ames

This is the worst Casey's i've gone to, which is already an incredible statement based on the performance of every other Casey's I've been to in the last couple years. Lets start with the food. Their 'famous' pizza is the worst ive had from a Casey's. The crust is ultra thin, so picking it up is almost enough for it to fall apart. Its grease is off the charts even for Casey's and the toppings are dry by the time its in the warmer. Their breakfast, which i often rely on after Kum and Go switched to their new model, is horrible. The bread for everything is so dry and while the sausage and egg is cooked, they throw cheese directly from the fridge on the sandwhich so you have a back and forth experience of hot and cold that the warmers cant fix because the warmer is set to roughly the heat of the inside of my pants. Then comes the store itself. This place is never stocked. The last several days ive gone here, there have been several rows in the drink section unstocked, yet when i peer through the open slots i can see plenty of the drinks that should go in the empty slots. I only took one set of photos as an example, but it is farther reaching. Them men's restroom is also among the grossest ive ever been in. I once left the restroom because it smelled like pee so strongly and when i asked the lady behind the counter if there could be a restroom check to take care of it, I was given an inquisitive look as if that wasnt a thing people did here. All of this is made more infuriating by how good of a time people seem to be having with each other behind the counters while next to no work is getting down. All in all, if you can avoid this store then I would. Nothing inside is worth the time except maybe the alcohol section so you can forget that the store is...

Had to come back to the store 3 times before my pizza was done because it took 40 minutes longer than my promised pickup time. Normally I would give the benefit of the doubt, but the second time I came back I found the lady who was working the kitchen chit-chatting with the lady working the cash register. When they saw me the lady working the kitchen commented that she needed to finish making a pizza and hurried back to the kitchen. I went to the register to pay and found that the pizza she had not yet completed was mine. I left again after paying and came back over 40 mins after my original pickup time to finally get my pizza. When I started going to this location 5 years ago the staff was fantastic, and I would have genuinely put them up against anyone in the country. In the last three years the employees have gone steadily down hill. Most of the interactions I have with the staff are extremely unprofessional, and today was no different. This will likely be the last time I use this Casey's location. The competition has gotten better as their quality has declined. I think people tend to only write reviews for places like this when they have a bad experience, so I thought I'd write about my good experience.

I ordered pizza over the phone 12/17/24. I did NOT like the AI assistant: if I'm calling vs. ordering online, it's because I have a unique need and want to talk to a human. I confused it enough that I got my human. We have struggled with the app. Every time we order through it, the pizza hasn't even been made when we arrive at the pickup time - no matter which Casey's we use - so called in. I needed to be certain my pizza was done at a particular time, and I had a coupon they needed to be aware of.

Arrived at pickup time, and the pizza was ready as requested. Paid and was on my way in less than five minutes. Pizza was tasty, as usual, thought it was very flimsy when first hot. Waited another ten-twenty minutes, and the crust had firmed up quite a bit, making it significantly easier to eat without a fork.
