I have been ordering from this restaurant a few times a month and my family especially likes the Red Dragon Roll. That is important because they also have a different roll called just the Dragon Roll. In the past I accidentally ordered the wrong one, so I have been extra careful ever since. I always say “Red Dragon Roll” clearly and ask them to repeat it back so there is no confusion.
Whenever that mix up happened before, I assumed it was on me. I never complained. I either ate it anyway or went back and bought the right one. This most recent order was the first and only time I said something, because I was certain I had been clear and that the mistake was not mine.
I picked up the food, got home, and realized it was the regular Dragon Roll instead of the Red Dragon Roll my family actually enjoys. I called right away and asked if they could swap it. They told me I must have ordered wrong and insisted they do not make those kinds of mistakes. They offered to sell me another roll but not to replace it, even when I said I was willing to bring the wrong one back.
It is unfortunate because I see the same people there all the time and I know they recognize me as a frequent customer. They could have easily looked up my phone number and seen how often I order, which I mentioned to them. I have supported many of the small businesses in this center, and this felt like the kind of moment where they could have shown they value their community. Instead it turned into a standoff.
Eventually after some back and forth they did refund the order, but only once I made it clear I would return the food either way and dispute the charge with my credit card if I had to. It should not have needed to go that far.
The food here is good and I know how tough it is to keep a small business running. But customers should know the management here can be stubborn and they truly do not think they make mistakes. Be very specific when you order, have them repeat it back, and check your bag...
Read moreMy family and I were excited to try this place for the first time today since it was close to our house. We looked over the menu and chose what we wanted. We ordered two pieces of yellow tail, two pieces of blue fin toro, lollipop roll and a cucumber roll. My wife chimed in and said we want shashimi at the last minute. When the sushi came out, it was delivered by a different waitress and I mentioned that we ordered two pieces each vs 4 each. She politely took it back and brought back two pieces. Then a moment later, our original waiter came to our table and started to clarify and argue with me. She said, “I don’t understand, you ordered shashimi and it only comes in 4 pieces not two” I then replied that it was my first time and I didn’t know. On the menu it, I saw two choices (2 pieces/4 pieces) and the corresponding prices. She replied with “well it’s clearly written on the menu” and I apologized and said that if I’m going to be paying for 4 pieces then bring the rest out. At the end of the conversation, I was embarrassed and it caused my wife and I to argue since it was such a small and quiet place. It made it seem like we were cheap but it was just a misunderstanding. Overall the food was great but the waitress with the very short hair was completely unprofessional, caused a scene and ruined our first experience there. We ate there 9/27 ~7pm. I’m still upset...
Read moreMy wife and I wanted to go to Ohshima (which we love) but couldn't get a reservation. So we looked up what was nearby and found Yagi Sushi only a few miles away.
We arrived at 7pm on a Tuesday and the place was not crowded (yet). We sat down at the bar with chef "Malibu" (not sure his actual Japanese name) and went with the omakase menu. First sign of a good sushi place is that the chef is Japanese. 2nd sign is that the fish are imported from Japan. Unlike omakase at Ohshima, the chef here prepares 6 pieces first, then followed by 4 pieces.
The sushi were exquisite! The only "normal" sushi we got were hamachi, bluefin tuna, and Japanese scallop. The others were more exotic: butterfish, toro, kurodai, sawara...). We also got a couple orders of kumamoto oysters and they were just delicious. We ended the meal with the tamago which was delicate and had just the right touch of soy sauce.
Overall, a great find. We will be back next time we're...
