Tyler & Downing's Eatery — Restaurant in Anamosa

We went here for supper at 6:15 on a Wednesday. It wasn’t busy, maybe 3 tables. My girlfriend and I ordered mixed drinks to start. They were terrible, it was obvious she didn’t know how to make drinks. We placed our order, 10oz sirloin, potatoes and a side salad, she ordered soup and a salad and her son ordered a kids pizza and fries. Here’s where it gets fun. We got our salads as normal, iceberg, and cranberry with bottled store bought dressing. NOT GOOD. For the prices you pay here you should expect homemade but that’s not what you get. 30 minutes later her son gets his pizza, it was obviously a frozen pizza, when we asked if it was frozen our waitress said no, it was homemade. At the same time he got his pizza I got a side of potatoes, JUST THE POTATOES. When she came back to ask how we were doing I asked where the rest of our order was, she was confused and said she didn’t think she put it in, so after an hour and a half of sitting around just to find out our order wasn’t even put in we left. Bottom line, they charge for high end food and you get poorly mixed drinks, weak salads with store bought dressing, frozen pizza and a waitress that is completely...

Everytime we eat here it’s a fantastic experience! The staff has always been good to us and tonight was extra incredible! We met the owner Dirk and had an unexplainable experience with him and the family history of the building! The steak I had was cooked perfectly! My baked potato was so good I could eat it by itself and the corn on the cob was amazing too, good ole Iowa sweet corn! My girlfriend had the wings and they said how they did them and they did not disappoint! So good and the buffalo sauce was homemade too! After dinner we went to the recently opened upstairs lounge and Jentry took such good care of us there until they closed! From A-Z this place is outstanding and a must go to! I understand staffing may be hard at times for a restaurant but they knocked it out of the park so those other one star reviews have to be from those experiences. Things happen, but for us this place has been consistent! You must try this Anamosa staple! Great owner, great staff, even better food, drinks...

We've rarely been treated so rudely by a restaurant! We decided to see if we could get in on Valentines Day. We went early hoping to get a table. When we came in the place only had a few tables filled. The hostess/waitress seated us immediately. However, she was new and obviously the manager did give her even the most basic training. She didn't know what the specials were or what beers they had on tap. After getting that sorted out an placing our order, the manager came over and said if we didn't have a reservation we'd have to leave! We were completed shocked! After the most insincere "sorry" we've ever gotten he just kicked us out. He didn't make even the slightest effort to try and make up for it. We'll not be returning there again. That man...
