This is “THE SPOT” you’ve been looking for to satisfy your tastes buds with a burst full of delicious flavors that you’re going to want to come back for more.
Authentic Latin Food with secret family recipes from Gacaatmaula, El Salvador, and Mexico that have been passed down to continue the tradition of bringing people together through the joy of food.
Family owned and driven by passion.
This place was highly recommended by a friend who is a local and I’m so glad I came during my trip visiting from Los Angeles.
The food is amazingly delicious, their hand crafted cocktails are so tasty that just having one is not enough, the service was phenomenal very personable and friendly, if you’re not sure what to get, just take their recommendations they will hook you up just right.
I literally came back here 3 times during my 1 week visit and even ordered a few things togo just to eat their secret menu item and tacos before my flight.
That’s how amazing this place is.
Here’s a list of everything I’ve tried.
Food: Chips and Salsa (and yes it is meant to be served warm, freshly made)
Chips and Queso Blanco ( it just hits different but love the flavor)
Yuca Con Chicharron (absolute fav, the perfect crunch fried combo to share)
Garnachas (bomb! Think a plate of mini tacos with deep fried corn tortillas)
Corn Quesadilla (whoa, biting into a fresh hand made corn tortilla with all the fixings is out of this world)
Pupusas - Revueltas, Birria and Cheese, Queso y Frijoles (sooo good that you can’t just eat one. The flavor took me back to reminisce of my youth.)
3 Ceviche Tostada (great to share, the chips come in handy to just dip and munch on)
Asada Tacos (tasty and stuffed with the right amount of fixings, should have ordered more)
🤫 Secret menu item - *Guatemalan Tamale🫔 * (only available for the holidays, these are freshly made so know that a lot of love goes into them and that it’s actually a family recipe and a holiday tradition. The pork is juicy, the masa is soft and not crumbly, this is was what I was craving on my last day in Minnesota that I just had to order it togo)
Dessert: Flan (creamy, thick and the prefect sweet. It made me think of my childhood)
Churros (served with ice cream and chocolate totally meant to be shared)
Cocktails: El Cantraito (the straws are just to stir, it’s all about the rim so sip around the whole cup)
El Borracho (this drink has every flavor from smokey, sour, bitter, and sweet, but just the right mix that might get a name changed to be called “The Lady”)
Margarita Clasica (if you go on Thirsty Thursday, it’s a 2 for 1 special so bring a friend)
Mojitos 8 (the best mojito I’ve ever had, I could drink multiple of these and be the happiest camper)
The owner is super passionate about what she does, she really cares about the quality of the food and finds so much joy bringing people together.
If something isn’t right, she’s totally on top of it to fix the issue to ensure that your are satisfied.
If you’re in a hurry, I recommend to order ahead of time for take out, their kitchen makes everything to order so keep in mind they do have a lunch and dinner rush during peek times.
Dinning in is well worth it, especially with a full bar stacked with specialty liquors and hand crafted cocktails.
Seriously, just know that a restaurant like this serving authentic quality food with the vibe to match in LA would be jam packed with reservations only and 3x the price.
Minnesota you don’t know how lucky you are.
They have booths, table tops and stools at the bar.
There are TVs, 2 restrooms, lots of natural light, free parking lot with plenty of spaces, and the atmosphere has a family homey vibe.
The decor has a upscale modern hip look and the string lights above have a festive vibe as if you’re at family party.
I’m definitely coming back to try the rest...
Read moreTo start I must say that my wife and I have been eating at Mrs. Taco (formerly Tasty Taco) since the day they opened in Andover and I just haven’t gotten around to writing a review. Mrs. Taco just started offering breakfast on Saturday’s so we had to check it out. From the first time we stepped foot into Mrs. Taco my wife and I have been treated like family. We’ve had several servers however our favorite server is the owners daughter. She’s so cheerful and welcoming and greets my wife and I with a smile every time we arrive. So as far as the service goes no matter who is your sever you will be super impressed! Let me get to the food. In Andover there are some good restaurants but not many that will leave you wanting more as you waddle out stuffed to the gills the way Mrs. Taco does. I wish that I could talk about my favorite dish but they are all so amazing I just can’t choose one. The first time we ate Mrs. Taco we had to try a little of everything. We were on a Birria Taco kick so we had to order some of those……let me just say THE BEST BIRRIA TACOS in the greater Minneapolis area! The meat is so tender and full of flavor! Absolutely perfect! Next we had to try the Papusa. The Salvadoran specialty thick griddle cake filled with Chicharron and the most amazing refried beans I’ve ever ingested left me speechless. Before I forget I have to mention the fresh made daily salsas that compliment the meals are to die for. The salsa served with the chips and salsa is served warm and might sound strange but is absolutely amazing! Ok, back to the meals……if you’re into burritos you have to try the Chimi Burrito! It’s full of the Birria meat, some kind of amazing cheese, onions and deep fried (perfect for Minnesotans) and will give you a complete mouthgasm!!! Haha alright, I could continue to breakdown every menu item my wife and I have tried (and I’m pretty sure we’ve tried almost everything) but that would take forever and at this point in my review you should realize how absolutely amazing Mrs. Taco’s food is. I do have to mention the Cubana Torta I fell in love with today. One could eat this for breakfast like I did this morning or for any other daily meal. Let me start by saying this torta is filled with Breaded Steak, Chorizo with Egg, Salchicha (hot dog), and ham. Then it’s topped with a mix of chicken, cheese and pickled veggies. In the first bite I could taste every layer of this amazing massive sandwich. All I could do was make moaning noises as I kept stuffing my face with this crazy take on a Cuban Sandwich as my wife just sat and laughed at me. The bread is to die for! Before I finish I have to talk about the atmosphere and the reason Mrs. Taco’s food is so amazing. It’s elegant and classy with an “everyone is family” type of feel where you could bring a first date that you’re trying to impress or a family of 10 just wanting to not cook at home for the evening. I will leave you with this……Mrs. Taco’s food is a labor of love. I don’t know this for sure however I believe that the name change occurred because every time my wife and have visited the restaurant there are these amazing Ladies always cooking the food and filling it with so much love that once it reaches your table it’s filled with such good vibes that your mouth, body and soul will want to thank the cooks personally for the amazing food you have been blessed to eat. Please go visit Mrs. Taco, in my opinion you will never find a more authentic restaurant from the food...
Read moreI went here with my mother for dinner and I have to say it wasn't very good.
We were seated right away which was nice. They have a nice small menu with all of the tex-mex hits...but with that being said I think there are a few questionable decisions on their quality of food.
First off you get chips and dip when you sit down (which I'm always about) but here it's a little different. What do I mean by that? Well the chips are fine but the dip I find to be an odd choice, what it is a tomato chipotle dipping sauce. Which is fine its a different it's smoky and sweet. I think personally salsa would have been a much better choice but I appreciate them trying new things I just don't think it sticks the landing. My personal opinion.
Next the entree! I ordered the Tasty Chicken and my mother ordered the burrito. Personally I think my meal had a good presentation. Everything was laid out nicely and looked great!....but then it takes a turn when you start tasting the food. Personally I thought the chicken was a little bland. It was seasoned but honestly forgettable. My meal came with guacamole, lettuce, sour cream, rice and beans. Personally I found the guacamole very disappointing. It tasted like it was one of those guacamole mixes you buy off the store shelf. No way that was home made. The lettuce was honestly the freshest thing on my plate which is kind of disappointing because well it's lettuce🤷♀️. Sour cream is well sour cream and tasted how I expected. Now the rice and beans...this was probably the greatest offense. The rice was over cooked and tasted like minute rice like the stuff you microwave for 90 seconds...very disappointing. The beans tasted like they came out of the can. No joke it tasted just like Fritos bean dip. With just a little cheese on top to dress it up. There's no way they are cooking fresh in that kitchen. They're taking shortcuts.
For my mom's burrito it came wrapped in tin foil... like Chipotle? 🤨 Which I thought it was strange, and she did too and thought it was supposed to be covered in sauce. When she spoke to the waiter about it he corrected her and said that was a different burrito and stood there in awkward silence for a moment. Then offered to get her some sauce to make things right. (We ended up getting charged for this sauce which the waiter never mentioned we would until we get the bill 😑 I feel like he should've been upfront with that.) The sauce itself was pretty bad too lol 😂. Again it tasted like it came out of a jar, it wasn't fresh. It's a running theme here at this restaurant...
To top everything off at the end the waiter more or less didn't come back to our table. We sat there for about 10 mins waiting for him to come back. This is a very small restaurant where we could see him next to the kitchen window chatting it up with all the female staff. My mother had to interrupt his conversation with the female staff in order to get our bill. We were able to pay quickly and leave.
As we were walking back to the car we looked at each other and said well I guess we're not coming back here again. We can cook better Mexican food at home.
I wish Tasty Tacos well but I can't come back here. I hope they step up their food quality and get better trained staff.
By the way Acapulco in Andover is 2 mi away and it has a better atmosphere, better food, and better staff. If you're looking for better Mexican food in...
