We were traveling out of town to celebrate our 13 yr wedding anniversary and decided to book a room at the Thayer as had never been there and looked like fun. This is a really charming place, friendly staff, comfortable appointed rooms. Reason giving it a 4 stars rather than a 5 stars is it was very warm in the room even with the air conditioning on and running at night, Room was a little small or compact as well although was very nice for the price point, also the bathtub was a little quirky turning it on, the food was excellent though and they had a nice menu and it arrived quickly for our evening meal as well but was a little slow for the breakfast meal and hash browns were a tad overcooked for the breakfast meal too but overall it was busy at the time also and food was ample and was good and everything was comfortable and very nice for the price point. We stayed in Miss Lily's room and we did witness some ghostly activity. At about 3:30 in the morning I woke up to go to the restroom and noticed our door was a bit cracked open. I woke my husband and asked him if he had stepped outside the room for anything at all and forgot to fully close or lock the door while I was asleep and he said no he hadn't left the room and he was certain also that he had locked it. And I said out loud at that point well can you please lock the door so nobody walks by while am here in my pajamas and the door automatically shut itself on its own before he could even get up out of bed. Then I went bk to sleep and he said at about 4am he woke up himself to go use the bathroom and he saw a figure standing to the left of the tv it wasn't super bright but was a white figure about 5 ft 9 maybe or a little taller than he was in height and couldn't see the full facial features but was a human figure with longer hair and the color of the white on a windowpane he said if were to describe it. And when he went to actual get up it dissapeared. I wish I would have seen that but seeing the door close on its own was enough for me to know it is haunted. And we felt very welcome there as well as comfortable there and bed was comfy as well but we did feel like were in the presence of somewhere that is haunted. It was a fun night and a memorable stay and a nice place is a pretty charming place . We would recommend it and would stop bk again if...
Read moreWe went later on a Saturday night and we were the only table in the whole place. Now if you want some excellent award winning food you need to go here. 1st my wife ordered a side salad with ranch and she said it was the best side salad she has ever eaten. Thats says a lot....we love our salads. The only thing about the side salad was it didnt come with the meal....bummer. I had the Sirloin and Ribs and my wife had the Filet Oscar. 1st of all my steak was cooked to perfection and the ribs were perfectly smoked....yum yum just writing this is making my mouth water. The waiter said the chef has won awards with his Ribs and other entrees. As I was shoveling in my amazing meal, My wife wasn't talking much either as she ate her steak. The Filet, which was bacon wrapped, was so tender it melted in her mouth and the taste of bacon with the hollandaise sauce, asparagus and seafood (either it was crab or lobster) was incredible i was told. Both came with a side dish which we both had loaded baked potatoes (Great choices). Overall the staff was very helpful and listened to my ghost stories and I tried to get theirs about the Thayer Inn. It is definitely very haunted even though the whole building is haunted most of the haunts are on the 2nd and 3rd floor where the Inns rooms are. They have closed the Inn and any ghosts tours but they might let you go to the 2nd floor and take a look.... just ask where the bathrooms...
Read moreMy honest review. We arrived at the Thayer around 5:30, the parking was odd and you had to park by the dumpers and walk around the building to the front, we checked in and went upstairs (the honeymoon suite) the room was charming but small, although it had the Victorian vibe, it was a little Run down, the bed had a adjustable frame but only worked when you unplugged it and plugged it back in and only for a few mins. The jetted tub was large and enjoyable, however it did take about an hour to fill. We went to dinner to eat and the wait staff were very nice and friendly. It did take awhile to get refills and our check but they were busy. My finance loved her prime rib sandwich, I ordered the ribs and chicken. The ribs were tender and had good flavor, but were not hot. The chicken was tough and not good. Overall our stay was fine, but if we wanted to stay somewhere with an old time vibe, we will probably look somewhere else. I do want to say we appreciate the work that went into preserving this old building, and understand how hard it could be to upkeep. I was disappointed to hear staff talking about "blocking someone from the Facebook page, but they couldn't from the main Page." I'm not sure who they were talking about but my hope is they would want to hear...
