While on my wayto AZ, I stopped in Aransas Pass to see if I could visit with some old friends from when I was stationed near by at Naval Station Ingleside and stayed at the Ransom Road RV Park. I met some great folks staying in the lot next to me. While on the roof of my motorhome doing some work, I noticed that I could see everything around me and asked my neighbors if there was a way to get to the water by walking out Ranson Road and they told me, "Yes," and that there was a pier and a place called "Mickey's Bar and Grill" there, and that the food was great and the scenery was, too. I had been out working on the motorhome most of the day, that Sunday, and was pretty hungry. So, I walked down to "Mickey's" and had a seat at the first bar stool as you come in the door there on the second level and ask the bar tender for a Coke and a menu. Well, as you can see by the pictures, I ordered a half dozen oysters on the halfshell and the "Pick 2," Oysters and Shrimp. While I was waiting for my food and young man walked behind the bar and I thought I noticed him, from years ago. So, I asked if his name was, "Robert" and he said, "No, Robert's downstairs in the kitchen. I said, "Oh, yeah. What's his last name?" He said, "Lopez, he's the Kitchen Manager." It wasn't who I thought it was, but just a few minutes later, a guy came in and sat down in the second bar stool, next to me. A few seconds later, he turned to me so, I spoke and he stuck out his hand, as to introduce himself. As soon as he said, "I'm the Kichen Manager," I said, "Robert Lopez!" You should have seen the look on his face. He immediately asked, right in the midst of shaking hands, "How do you know that?" I laught and again he asked, "How do you know that. I have to know?" Well, anyway, needless to say, we had a great conversation!!! I'm glad I was just finishing up eating because, at 5 pm, the place started to get busy and I had more work to get done on the motorhome. We had short talk and I left. But, if you want to have a good time and some great food, "Mickey's Bar and Grill" is the place to come. I sure will be coming back on my way back through from AZ!!! Thanks...
Read moreI cannot express how much it pains me to write this review about Mickey's restaurant; however I feel if I do not I would be remiss to disabled individuals in the area looking for an establishment who are truly excepting of service animals. First let me say my husband and I have been patrons of this restaurant for many years now & wanted to share our love for their food, hospitality, & ambience with our children when they came down to visit this weekend. Secondly I have recently been diagnosed with a condition requiring me to have need of a service dog. Because there is an adorable dog cut out saying service dogs welcome I didn't think there would be an issue when we arrived & asked for a table. This is where it gets embarrassing, prejudicial, & down right illegal. When I asked for a table I notified the hostess we had a service dog & showed the hostess all of the places displaying the words "service dog". She informed me because I had a service dog we could not sit upstairs & apparently there were no tables available downstairs. I don't mind waiting for a table but after 30 minutes in the sweltering heat I asked again if it were possible to be seated upstairs since there were tables available. I was told yet again (because the manager couldn't be bothered to come downstairs to speak with me) that "dogs have to stay downstairs" this was a bit rude & disrespectful. Yes, I know I could have taken our business elsewhere & believe me when I say in the future I will however, it becomes an issue of legality at this point. According to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) "Patrons with disabilities who use service animals cannot be isolated from other patrons, treated less favorably than other patrons...[and] "must generally allow service animals in public areas even if state or local health codes prohibit animals on the premises." I just hope in the future the staff at this location will re-familiarize themselves with laws pertaining to service dogs they so eagerly boast...
Read moreSo today was my first time eating here. I like to start by saying the high points of this place. The establishment was probably one of the neatest that I have been to in a while I love the fact that it sits over the water high up with lots of open seating with a nice breeze coming right through that's easily to control by simply opening and closing garage door windows. The staff here were super friendly and I thought it was interesting that on their menu they had a you catch it we cook it unfortunately this option is not available at the current time due to covid. The major downfall that I saw with this establishment was the prices if you're not worried about the price then you will probably enjoy this restaurant but if you're like me and you like being thrifty with your money then you will probably find this establishment to be overpriced. I want to be fair but I also want to point out the obvious. A simple fish basket of fried fish and french fries at $20 is more than 25% over your average restaurant. It was not just the fish basket. As I look down the menu I felt the majority of the menu was overpriced, but I will say the food was good it was well prepared it was plated in a professional manner that I would expect at a quality restaurant. Like I said the environment was awesome. With everything being taken into account I've decided to give this...
