Everything was so good! This was our first time in Arcadia and after reading reviews for restaurants in the area, we decided upon Donjuan Mexican Restaurant.
It didn’t disappoint at all! The outside of the building is colorful and the inside is welcoming and clean.
Our waitress helped me pick out a good drink, Horchata, which I’ve had before but this one tasted amazing and super refreshing. My dad even got one to go and almost liked it better than the Modelo beer 🍺 (his chosen drink).
Best salsa choices I’ve had in while at a restaurant! The green one had avocado 🥑 in it and lil kick.
Waitress also helped me pick out the Enchilada Supremas (sp?) number 13 since I was looking for something with verde. I highly recommend it if you like a party 🎉 in your mouth as you are eating. There were pieces of cucumber in the lettuce which I thought was genius to add flavor and freshness. Plus using red onion slices is impressive in my opinion.
My dad had a queso dip which he could have licked the bowl clean if he was at home. He also ordered the fried quesadillas (sp?) and dunked ‘em in the queso.
Would definitely go again just to try more of their delicious food and watch the TV that has a food show play with Spanish subtitles.
There were some fancy dishes at other tables that I was tempted to ask what it was so I could try them next.
Thank you Donjuan for going above and beyond for our first...
Read moreThe prices don’t seem to be listed anywhere that’s readily accessible for customers. The most disappointing thing for me was their chips and salsa. For some reason a Mexican restaurant’s chips and salsa is one of the most important factors for me. There are some fundamental things a Mexican restaurant should have, and I think good homemade salsa is one of those things. I could immediately tell the salsa they gave us was just jarred salsa you can probably buy anywhere. So disappointing. Maybe they just ran out after a busy holiday week, but I’m not sure. Also...an unexpected surprise was that more than half of our chip basket was filled with chicharrones (fried pork skins). I know there are some people who are absolutely crazy about these things. Unfortunately, I am not one of those people. I think they were probably very fresh judging by the smell I couldn’t avoid, so if you are one of those people, you will be a happy camper. HOWEVER, there are some things this place does very well. The server was incredibly patient and kind, the salsa verde was very good, all the dishes were seasoned very well, and the authentic gorditas were fabulous! They have some items on their menu that are not often found at run-of-the-mill Mexican restaurants. They even have cabeza (cow cheek) tacos if you ask for it. Try...
Read moreMy sisters and I drove 45 mins to try out this place because we heard the food was great. The food was great, however, the service was horrible. We ordered the $80 meal which included a lot of different meats along with a beef soup, one of the shakes and two mangonadas. The waitress seem to not want to serve us at all. We had to ask for a couple of waters and when we asked for a refill, she continue to just keep sweeping and barely acknowledge us. She did eventually bring out one refill. There were 6 of us. When we were done eating, my sisters asked for take home boxes and bags along with a soup box which she stated they had nothing to put the soup in to take home. I then asked her if we could have three lids for our drinks which she took a big sigh and slowly took three lids out for me. I felt she didn’t want to give me the lids even though we ordered three drinks. Overall, I just felt like she didn’t want to give us any service and that anything we asked her was an inconvenience for her. We did enjoy the food but will never go back due to the bad service. Most places would never make you feel like a bother when asking for waters, refills, take out...
