Pops 66 — Restaurant in Arcadia

POPS is a must-see Oklahoma landmark in its own right. This ultramodern gas station showcases thousands of colorful soda pop bottles. In addition, POPS includes a popular restaurant featuring a traditional soda fountain, mouth-watering burgers and hand-dipped milk shakes that serves approximately 475,000 people each year.

Have you always assumed that the name POPS is inspired by the more than 650 types of soda pop featured in the building? If so, think again! The name POPS is actually a tribute bestowed by the owner for his own father, whom he affectionately calls “Pops.”

With more than 600 choices of bottled beverages, are you curious as to what the most popular flavor might be? And what specific soda has been sold the most in POPS history? Wonder no more! “Dublin Dr Pepper is our best selling soda ever,” Marty reveals. “And root beer is the number one flavor sold overall, with more than 80 varieties available.” And speaking of root beer, POPS’ own Round Barn Root Beer is a proprietary house blend that is available only in Arcadia

There are too many in the running for most unusual. But some of the top contenders would be Beefdrinker’s Teriyaki Beef Jerky Soda or Lesters Fixins’ Ranch Dressing Soda. We also feature sodas with some pretty unusual names, including Avery’s Kitty Piddle or Pimple Pop. There are some unusual fruit sodas, too, including Sioux City Prickly Pear and Hot Lips Marionberry.

Most of us like soft drinks. Yes, we know most soft drinks are not exactly health drinks, but they do taste good and they match well with many foods. If you love a good soft drink and love finding new drinks to try, then a place you must visit is Pops, in Arcadia, Oklahoma.

Pops is located on historic Route 66 and the reason I ended up stopping here was due to the large and easily visible bottle and straw out front. It is something like sixty feet tall and impossible to miss. Its attention- grabbing nature convinced us that there must be something worthwhile inside, so we parked and walked in.

Pops has several hundred soft drinks from which to choose. Most of them are in bottled form and you will find all sorts of brand names, many of which you have likely never heard of before. When I visited with my family, we each decided to grab a pair of bottles of some of our favorite flavors, like cream soda, root beer, ginger ale, etc. Sampling them revealed some true soft drink gems. The frustration, of course, is that you are not likely to be able to find most of these soft drinks again. They are not widely distributed, so your only option might be to look up the brand online and see if you can purchase it that way. Or, if you don’t live far away, you could just make it a point to return to Pops in the near future.

Besides the soft drinks, Pops sells snack foods to go with your soft drinks and they are also a diner, so if you want a meal to go with your unique soft drink, you can get that, too. They are also a gas station. These are all nice extras, but Pops is really all about the soft drinks, with several hundred different drinks from which to choose. POP's Arcadia, Ok Route 66 Arcadia, Oklahoma

After leaving Route 66 Chandler, Oklahoma, we knew we wanted to stop at Pop's Arcadia, Oklahoma. This was definitely a fun stop, and as you walk in, you see the numerous amounts of sodas that they sell. I'm a big root beer fan, so we bought a couple for the road. They also do have some great Souvenirs abd a small little diner inside.

We were both a little hungry, so we decided to try them out. The Diner was busy, but we were seated right away. We took a glance at the menu, which offered several different types of selections from a breakfast menu, burgers, sandwiches, hotdogs, salads, and a dinner menu. They also offered a desert menu, along with shakes, malts, floats, and of course sodas.

I asked what people like to order, and our waitress suggested I get the "Round Barn Burger" since it had a fried egg and bacon. This was served on a croissant. This was delicious, and the burger was nicely cooked and juicy. Chuck ordered the "Black Bean Burger Wrap." He said it was delicious and probably one of the best he has had. Our meals came with a side order. We both opted for the fried okra, which was nicely seasoned and fried nicely. We also ordered an appetizer, Pop's Sampler, which included Queso Fries, Fried Pickles, and Chicken Quesadilla. All the items were delicious.

The staff were all great, friendly, and outgoing. The food came out quickly. The staff checked in on us frequently.

Overall, we had a great experience here. This definitely is a great place to stop if you want a quick meal, grab some different types of sodas, buy souvenirs, gas up, or even just to rest. My only thing was, I just wished we were passing through during the evening to see the neon. There is...
