It's my favorite stop for lunch when traveling to visit family in Southern IL. This old diner has been around since the 70's and kinda looks it, too. Don't let that scare you. The food is great and most of it seems home-cooked. We stopped on Sunday and the place was packed with mostly locals. We had to wait about 10 minutes but they serve quickly. (That was the first time we ever had to wait) My wife and I ordered the pot roast special and it was fantastic. It might be the best roast I've ever eaten as it wasn't dry at all. It was cheap, too. Read moreThe Hen House is a local favorite place for breakfast/brunch/lunch. The staff is polite and hard working while being friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Whether you are a local or traveling through, you will feel at home in this quaint barn shaped restaurant. While the inside hasn't been remodeled for decades, it is kept up and cleaned to the best of the staff's ability. The restaurant is kid friendly and wheel chair accessible so it is a place for everyone. Daily specials and local favorites give you a large selection to choose from. Just make sure to get here before 3 because they don't serve dinner. Stop in for a cup of their freshly ground and brewed coffee, you won't be...

After waiting about 20 minutes for sandwiches and onion rings, what came to us was not the best home cookin. The onion rings were so overcooked that they looked like the skins from the onion. The breading was off the onions. When I told the waitress I wasn't paying for something I couldn't and didn't want to eat, she just said "Uhhh" and walked away with the bill. No apology or no offer of a replacement. The sandwich was edible and I did pay for it. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant even if you...
