Picholo's — Restaurant in Arecibo

Great service, excellent variety of flavorful food and drinks. Air conditioned dining room and bar area. I have to change my rating due to the unexpected rudeness of the owner. I was having lunch with a local business owner for over 50 years in the same town (Arecibo) and was there with my service animal, as I have done many times before. The owner upon being greeted by the other business owner responded ' yes, I know who you are, and how dare you come in here with that animal'! We had already been served our cocktail and our order had been taken and as usual, nothing was said about my service animal, which happened to be in an enclosed carry bag placed out of the way on the floor. I was embarrassed for my friend as he is well known and respected in the community as Picholo yelled his distaste with many other clients present who were already dining. Very poorly handled by the owner. We have brought many business associates, family, and friends to his establishment and are well known to him. Very poor taste! His loss is another...

Used to have great experiences here (in the past). Recently visited last week of July 2023. We walked in to a table full of men drinking - that itself made it feel more like a bar than a “family” restaurant. This restaurant emphasizes that it is “ambiente familiar,” so we found this disconcerting as our first impression upon walking in. After being haphazardly waved in toward a table by someone there wearing headphones, we waited so long that we never even got to order. They don’t accept dogs, period. If they do you have one, when they had no sign about it, they just get difficult. But, that’s something else. When it comes to food, it depends on the day of the week and the time. My parents go there all the time and the food varies from good to ok and great. So, it’s just however lucky you get.
