Being born and raised in NM with Blake's (an aunt of mine even managed an Albuquerque location for years in the '80's) I will try to avoid nostalgia in this review. So, my family and I were visiting Tucson and need a quick bite to eat so we decided to go out of our way a bit to go to Blake's.
The restaurant was evidently a fairly new build. First impressions were good with the spotless property. But it did seem strange to see no other customers on the property at 5:30 on a Friday evening.
The menu was simplified. The cashier had trouble with her register reading two cards but finally got the sale completed. My wife had to use the other restroom because the women's room was out of order.
We did have to wait a few minutes because they had to cook everything fresh since there was no customer traffic. When we got our food we had to go back inside because they had neglected to give us a shake we ordered.
My Lotaburger was good with nice and hot green chili. My younger teenage son was disappointed that the "jumbo" hot dog was just a bun length Nathan's dog and not a quarter pound dog. My wife even said that her Itsaburger was like a kids meal size burger. The cane adovada burro was a bit small but good for the price.
I rarely write any reviews this long, but I did want to give some good feedback for an okay review. I wish them the best in their expansion, but they are expanding into a market with established competition from other good fast food burger joints like...
Read moreWent to the drive thru to order a meal on Saturday, 8/14/2021, and I was not informed that fries are no longer included with the meal, while also paying nearly $8 for just a burger (I am disappointed with this pricing b/c it seems very expensive for fast food, but had they informed me ahead of time, I probably wouldn’t have thought twice about it). With only 3 people ahead of me in line, it took an additional 20 minutes after placing to receive my order, and no one told me that the wait was going to be this long (I also work in food service, and our ticket times usually don’t reach 20 minutes until we have more than 15 orders at a time). I didn’t expect much really but the experience I got with the service was much worse than what I had anticipated it would be like. The burger was lukewarm, not hot when I got it. I was actually halfway home when I realized my order didn’t include fries, so I turned around and drove all the way back to get my refund. I didn’t even open my sandwich, I brought it back for them to throw away. I will not be coming back, which is sad to say because I thought the food was kind of good when they first opened. I would like to give them the benefit of the doubt and say that they had a weak staff working tonight, but every time I drive past either location in Tucson, it almost seems as if no one is ever there, so this must be a common issue with the...
Read moreI had never heard of this restaurant before finding it on Google maps. I'm a travel nurse new to the Tucson area and was looking for a quick bite to eat after working the night shift. After much deliberation, this restaurant looked like a decent option as it was close to my job and offered more than just breakfast items early in the morning.
I had no expectations but did read the menu and some reviews prior to ordering. I got the burger and french fries as well as chicken strips and onion rings and a cherry shake.
I was delightfully impressed with the cherry shake as I had never had one. The fries were nothing special and the burger was not what I had ordered. I ordered the double burger without the green chilies but didn't receive the second Patty. I'm not sure if I received the correct sandwich or whether there was a mix-up. I spontaneously got the chicken strips and onion rings as well to bring home to the family. When I tried the onion rings and Chicken strips. I suddenly decided that the family can have the burger and french fries and I'm taking the chicken strips and onion rings. Both were on point! And I'm totally coming back tomorrow...
