I’ve been coming to Omar’s Hi-Way Chef since 1989. Always very pleased with the food and comfort of the restaurant. It had been over 6 months last time I was at the TTT, and to my surprise the restaurant was completely remodeled to provide the feel of an ice cream parlor. It was clean & cute but the old time feel was the draw for the truckers... so I just decided to embrace the changes and give it a try. I ordered food to go, due to the pandemic. I ordered my favorite liver & onions with mashed potatoes & brown gravy with a slice of garlic Texas toast. The mashed potatoes had too much liquid and not as good. Gravy was tasty, toast was good. The liver was overcooked but had plenty of onions. In addition I ordered the Hot Roast Beef open faced sandwich. It was good but again the mashed potatoes had too much liquid. Finally I ordered the TTT Breakfast Burrito which was 1/3 smaller than the usual burrito size. And the topper, a piece of decadent chocolate cake, which was perfect. All in all, I would come back again to seek improvement suggestions were implemented. Ownership has changed which explains the redesign and chef flaws. The good bones are established, I would request the new owner start with the chef techniques to improve some minor flaws. Waitress staff will need to step up the game with enthusiasm to return to what worked for a few decades. If it’s not broke,...
Read moreWe stopped in last night 11/22. First time. Food was good and plentiful. But, one of the serves jump on the bus service. He was working as fast he could but I guess not good enough for her. I couldn't believe it. Could she not clear a table in the back? Was she too good?
Now for this morning 11/23. We were in Sandy's section. Again food good. But when we asked for something it was like an inconvenience or a crazy request. I had ordered coffee, it was bottom of pot. I fixed like I like it, but the brand just wasn't what I'm use to. She comes over and says there's your coffee. Well yea I knew that. I put it to the side. She kinda rushed us. My husband still had the menu in front of him looking it over. She said sir your menu? He said I'm still looking at it. Our food came. He asked gorgeous a bigger bowl for his grits as he adds more butter and such, needed room to stir she finally got a bigger bowl. When he ordered he asked for an extra biscuit. She said you get 2 he stated I would like another. He then asked for another butter, she comes back and says here's 2! Marina done so much more. She refilled our water. Stopped ask if we needed anything. Not Sandy. Marina even asked if we needed a to go box. Cuddos to Marina. Being truck drivers we appreciate the parking and wonderful food. I had done some dishes then came in with the clean ones. Sandy looked at me like I shouldn't bring...
Read moreEditing a 5 star review to a 1 star. I have been coming here since I was a kid. It has been amazing until recently. They have new owners or investors who changed everything, from who they get their food through to how the business is run. With the changes has been a MASSIVE decline in how the food has been. The chicken Parmesan has been so bad the last few visits my husband and I changed what we order and tried the chicken Chimi enchilada style and the enchilada and taco dinner. The center of the Chimi was cold when it hit the table. The cheese in the enchiladas were not even fully melted and the enchilada sauce tasted burnt. The waitresses have always been hit and miss how pleasant they are but this last time she barely spoke to us or the tables around us until something was brought to her attention. When I mentioned the issues with the food she was kind enough to inform us mid March they are getting a new menu, as if that makes up for the poor food. I won't be coming back to try it. Nor will I be recommending this place to everyone I know anymore. I seriously hope the correct people see this review and get this fixed, truckers and locals...
