Saturday night at 6 pm, the restaurant was full. The parking lot had a wait, so it was suggested we go inside where there was no wait. We went inside and were told that it would be a 20 minute wait. When I stated we were told there was no wait inside, I was told "we just filled up"... well, it was a Sat night at 6pm so that makes sense. We were given one of those flying saucer discs that flash lights when they want you to return. And, eventually it went off (17 minutes). We were seated at a 4 top (3 in my party) and I noticed all booths were filled since plastic dividers had been added between booths. No more staggered seating. Our waitress was Carolina (pronounced Karo-Lean-A) who was very nice. One of the party has Celiac disease, so we needed to know what had gluten. When she rattled off the dressings for the salad, She said the house was ok. I asked why she didn't check on the other dressings, and she said she knew this one was safe, and didn't want to take a chance on information from the kitchen. We got a NY strip and 2 Filets. One personal issue I have is, the waitstaff don't offer you a vegetable, they automatically opt for a salad, then you get a starch and your protein. Veg is a 2.99 upcharge, or you can forgo the salad, but they never tell you that. The restaurant also has no soup or chowder available. The food is ok, not great, not bad just ok. the best thing is the vegetables which are of good size and generally well cooked, but not mushy. definitely worth the small upcharge. The bill with 1 coffee, and 1 glass of red, and 3 rice puddings was 110+ with the tip and tax 132.+ We left 140.00. The waitress expressed her gratitude, saying that it was much appreciated. I worked as a waiter one summer before starting college, and since then I have always overtripped. It's a thankless job. Bottom line, This is a bit pricy for "choice quality" meats. The restaurant obviously has a good following among the denizens of Arlington, and if a step up from the 99. But at these prices it should be better than it...
Read moreWe came randomly for lunch on our way back from Boston and we are big steak lovers so we were looking forward to it. Unfortunately the steak options for lunch are very limited. I was thinking you would be able to get Filet or at least Sirloin or NY Strip but those were not options. We were told that stuff is mainly for the dinner menu which was a disappointment.
We ordered an appetizer of Motzeralla sticks and they were really good but I can not say I enjoyed that they came on a bed of lettuce? I've never seen that anywhere and as someone who cannot stand the taste of lettuce, I found it a little difficult to try to get the flavour off of.
My boyfriend ordered the KC prime rib and thought it was delecious. I ordered the chicken parmagiana and didn't really like it. I found the sauce off putting but the chicken itself was cooked well and crispy.
My son had chicken strips and fries and both were good.
Overall I was rather upset with this visit because they didn't have the steak I wanted, the appetizer I usually enjoy was less enjoyed than usual due to the lettuce and I didn't find my meal (chicken parmagiana) to be good. I left having mainly eaten the motzeralla sticks. The staff was excellent though. She understood I didn't like my meal and without asking took the chicken parmagiana off the bill. The atmosphere was really calm and rather dark which I found relaxing and wish more restaurants were like. If I am in the area again I would give it one more...
Read moreJimmy's Seer House is one of those local favorites that has been around forever. My family used to take me there as a kid in the 1970s. Jimmy's was always famous for two of their dishes. The steak tips and the chicken parmesan. After not having been there in many a year, we decided to take the trip down memory lane. Needless to say, they have remodeled since my last visit. The restaurant was still in dark tones and felt comfortable while still being clean and well maintained. To the left as you enter is a bar area. Gone was the "loungey" feel. It was just a fairly open space leading up to a full bar. To the right is the restaurant seating area. Mostly booths (now with plexiglass safety shields hanging between them) and a few tables. Overall it felt open and inviting. Two of us ordered the chicken parmesan. It came as a generous portion with linguini and garlic bread. The chicken was juicy. The coating crunchy. The sauce and cheese flavorful. One of our party ordered had the steak tips. The tips were of good size and were cooked just right. The tips came with a side of fries that also look good. Jimmy's has maintained it's quality over the decades and it was great to see them still going strong. It had gotten to be a very long time since we had last gone to Jimmy's. Now that we remembered it, I'm sure we will keep going back. The food was very good and the prices...
