ABSOLUTELY UNMATCHED — A CULINARY EXPERIENCE LIKE NO OTHER!
If you’re in Virginia and haven’t been to Baba Retro & Bar, you’re seriously missing out on one of the finest dining experiences you can find anywhere. From the moment we stepped in, everything — and I mean everything — exceeded our expectations.
The food? Out of this world. Every dish we tried was bursting with flavor, prepared with obvious care, and beautifully presented. Whether you’re into bold spices or more subtle layers of flavor, they have something to delight your taste buds. It’s the kind of food that stays with you long after the meal ends — rich, soulful, and clearly crafted by someone who understands and loves their art.
The environment? Warm, inviting, and stylish — the perfect blend of retro charm and modern comfort. Whether you’re on a date, out with friends, or enjoying a quiet night, the ambiance at Baba Retro is ideal. The lighting, the decor, the music — everything hits the right note.
Customer service? Flawless. The staff was incredibly attentive without being overbearing, and genuinely made us feel welcome. It felt like they weren’t just doing their job — they actually cared about making sure we had an unforgettable evening.
And then there’s the chef. What a class act! He personally came out to introduce the menu, took the time to understand our preferences, answered all our questions, and offered recommendations that turned out to be spot on. You could feel the passion he puts into his food just by the way he spoke. That level of personal connection is rare and made the experience even more special.
I’ve dined in top-tier restaurants around the country, and I can honestly say Baba Retro & Bar ranks among the best of them. It’s not just a place to eat — it’s a place to experience, savor, and remember.

Read moreUpdate in September 2025- decided to give Baba's another chance. This time, even better food. Glad to say that I am impressed and loved the Punjabi flavors. The kadhi and paneer kadhai were great! And to top it all, they started including rice with the entrees. That's definitely a huge plus. The prices are slightly higher than other Indian places but I think their taste and quality is also higher than other places. Will return for sure!!
Bottomline- The food is quite good but unlike many other "reviewers", my mind is not blown. There are other Punjabi restaurants with similar or even better north Indian food here in Ashburn.
Good: The food is quite authentic. The menu is quite impressive.
Bad: This can be on an expensive side. If you order just one butter chicken, you will have to order rice separately. Most restaurants include rice with their entrees. Not here. One dish with rice and taxes and tips will come to about $35 which is quite steep compared to other equally good Indian restaurants here.
I ordered pickup. Was difficult to even order on phone as they would not pickup. There is no online ordering. After several attempts, managed to reach the restaurant on their cellphone. Placed the order. I asked if entrees come with rice. They said they don't, but since they are new, they will add complimentary rice. I said thanks. But when we got home and opened the packet, no rice! Imagine!. I think their management is a bit unorganized and chaotic. Hopefully this settles down soon. Maybe it is just because they recently opened.
My mind is not blown and I still think their butter chicken is not as impressive as I expected. I prefer the other Punjabi restaurant's butter...

Just got back from Baba's, and I'm feeling pure "Balle Balle!" As someone from Ludhiana, I was skeptical, but let me tell you, this place is the real deal! It feels like a piece of my hometown has come all the way to Ashburn. We ordered the Butter Chicken, and it was out of this world – rich, creamy, and took me straight back to the streets of Ludhiana. The Kali Mirch Paneer was perfectly spiced, with that proper kick of black pepper. And the bread basket? Oh, heavenly! Every naan and roti was hot, fresh, and perfect for wiping the plates clean. Sachhi, I didn't leave a drop! And can we talk about the Masala Coke? Finally, someone gets it right! It was the perfect fizzy, tangy companion to the meal. The flavors here are so authentically Punjabi, it's not just food, it's a feeling. It's clear the people behind Baba's know their stuff. For a moment, I forgot I was in Virginia and not back home. If you're looking for proper desi khana that tastes like it's straight from a pind in Punjab, this is it. No fusion confusion, just pure, unadulterated taste. Baba's, tussi great ho! A definite "bruuuahhh" from this...
