La Cabana de Don Juan — Restaurant in Athens-Clarke County Unified Government

First experience, I ordered carry out over the phone. Told it would be 20 minutes after order read back to me. Cool. Arrived and waited additional 10 minutes while confused staff have no idea what I’m talking about or what I ordered. I show them the record of my call, and it was not any sort of language barrier. 5 more minutes go by and I have to hunt down a manager who finally tells they don’t even have what I ordered because they ran out (of tamales), and he doesn’t know who took my order. I’m 35 minutes in at that point and looking at another 20 to get anything, so I cut my losses and left. That sucked.

Came back another time with family to dine in and it was mediocre. Not bad. Just ok. Like you can’t remember what you ordered. I don’t.

If you’re looking for tacos with lettuce, tomato and sour cream, chips & queso, taco salads, etc. then this might be your jam.

La Cabaña is a great restaurant that has great food, and great service.

I ordered a Burro de la Roquetta, which had grilled chicken wrapped in a tortilla (sans grilled onions) with sauces on top, and pico de gallo and rice on the side. I enjoyed every last bite, and especially the chicken which had a perfect flavor. Our food also arrived very quickly, especially for the busy time when we ordered it.

As for the service, our server was calm and, while she got confused by my ineptitude when it comes to spanish, she still understood what I had meant in...

My family loves this place and it is easily the best Mexican restaurant in Watkinsville (and probably in Athens, too). The more unique decorations, rock work and fireplace gives it a nice vibe inside and definitely shakes off that generic strip mall restaurant feel. Food is authentic and delicious every time. It has never been even close to crowded for us, but we don't go at what would probably be considered peak times since we have two small children. Staff have always been very nice and helpful, as well. Also, ask for the spicy salsa, if you dare....
