It's an old school downtown type eatery that's been around for like 60yrs. It's small and original inside. The menu is mostly "hamburgers" and hotdogs. It's very inexpensive and as of 5-1-2019 still CASH ONLY. There are several signs posted saying something but some folks miss it and they seem to get frustrated by it...Get a Debit card terminal! That wasn't my issue though.. Waiter was very nice, and helpful. We ordered the burger and fries. Fries are the cheap crinkle cut ones you find in bulk at Sam's club or something, just average and bland.
The "hamburger"..... It is small, so you'll need 2 to fill u up, but after one you may not be interested in the second. The "meat" isn't ground beef. The patty is white and has the consistency of breakfast sausage patties. It's tastes like fat and grease, not beef or a burger. We ate the little burger, picked it our fries and left. While paying, we watch the cook scoop "meat" out of a bucket, make a patty, and toss it on the grill. She was doing so a couple feet from the register. The "meat" was white fresh from the bucket. We asked what all was in the burger... "pork fat, pork, beef fat, ...." I believe the 2 main ingredients are fat, and it tasted like it. Then they put the buns down on the flattop and let them set in the grease. My stomach was not happy. We left with a half empty stomach and NO desire to EVER go back. I will say this place has lasted like 60yrs and I've heard folks say it's great.. If you like greasy fatty foods, go order a few double cheeseburgers and have an ambulance wait out...
Read moreOkay, this place has... History. It's been here for years, and if you like their food, hats off to you. It's a novel experience, and I do appreciate the fact it's Very Cheap. If you already eat here, nothing I say is going to convince you to change your mind. If you're looking for a hole in the wall type local flavor, it's certainly that.
Okay. I've been here twice now, and these are some of the blandest burgers I've ever eaten. I mean, meat wise the patties have less taste than the condiments. They are left on the grill so long there's a layer of crispy brown on the top and bottom, while inside is a light grey. They're extremely greasy, and I genuinely don't know what a fresh cooked patty tastes like as they have a number of them sitting on the grill, ready to go. No idea how long they've been sitting there, but hey, they're Really cheap.
The fries are overcooked, unsalted, and I genuinely believe they need to change out their oil just a little more often.
Lastly, I got water, cause I was being just That Cheap. It was a solid cup of ice with some water in it. I'm... Flabbergasted. You doing that with the soda, I get it, gotta get every penny of profit you can when your whole selling point Is being a cheap place to grab lunch. But doing that with the water? Oofta guys.
If you need a bunch of food for cheap and you have a hankering for a different taste profile than McDonald's, absolutely come here. Like I said, it's a novel experience, and I'll probably be back, cause sometimes, you just want a greasy,...
Read moreI went in around lunch time and ordered one hamburger and one cheese burger to go the food was great like the old time hamburger with the buns warmed on the grill. My complaint is the lady putting the condiments on the buns was wearing gloves which is great but she went and wiped off a table after two customers had just left with a nasty looking rag then went straight back to putting the condiments on my hamburger buns and placing them on my hamburger she never changed gloves after cleaning off a nasty table. Just because their wearing gloves doesn't mean you can touch every nasty thing in site and go back to handling people's food that's about as nasty as you can get. I want be going back. Some one needs to teach them about...
