Perfectly average Mexican cuisine. Tex-Mex is always a safe choice but, with rising prices and tastier options, one must ask themselves, "Why?" Our server was awesome and the music selection on-point, but the food was slightly above mediocre. In fact, I could have made better food.
We ordered the enchiladas, soft tacos, and chalupa. The latter was a very crispy tortilla with no volume or flake to it. Felt more like a tostada or hare taco. The enchilada was good but tasted more like a lasagna roll-up.
The hard tacos were fresh and flavorful. Seemed the grilled chicken was the way to go, as the ground beef was not seasoned very well. It felt like Hispanic/Latino cuisine watered down for the masses, as if the cooks were all borrowing from a Kosher cookbook.
The rice and beans were good but that is the sort of staple you expect to be right. The only saving grace was the friendly service, which prevented me from complaining about the food to management.
Before I forget: our appetizer was avtually good. The Chori Queso is a take on queso fundido whereas the meat is the star and the cheese is just there as a binding agent. The savory flavors came through on this dish and it was worth taking home in a doggie bag.
That said, the dish was greasy as can be. Served on a sizzle plate, the grease was jumping about for a few minutes. Combining a greasy sausage with an oily cheese means you really need to drain it st least once. I would say the dish was 50% fat/grease content, which I suppose helped with the necessary alcohol consumption that ensued.
Overall, this is representative of Mexican cuisine in the CSRA: overpriced and underwhelming. It would be a more compelling stop if you had better Happy Hour and lunch specials. If you want memorable Spanish cuisine from different cultures, my vote still goes to La Casa Latina. They are expensive but never disappoint!
As a side note, I'm not sure what happened but it seems this shift happened in recent years. About 5-6 years ago, you could go to just about any Mexican restaurant and get good food at a great price. Now the price is higher and the quality much lower. Even the spot on Boy Scout Road is a mere shell of what it used to be. Shame.
If you have low expectations, can't really cook [Spanish] food, or just have money to burn, give it a go. Maybe you will get lucky and have a...
Read moreI only gave 5 stars because they are usually very good. That being said, Today it was just OK. I ordered the dinner portion so I'd have leftovers, thank God I did, the beans were dry and babies portion, the rice was also very dry and child size. I ordered the Pollo Fundido chimi's and unfortunately I allowed the waitress to talk me into 1 beef and 1 chicken, instead of 2 beef. The beef wasn't bad, besides the sweet tea, it was the only bright spot in the meal. The chicken was dry (are you sensing a theme here) and rather tough. The other theme today was that the portions were lunch (child size, actually) size! I paid for a fullsize meal. I saved the best for last. I saw the elotes mexicano (corn on the cob, Mexican style) and my mouth started watering, at first in a good way and then when it arrived, in a bad way! Elotes Mexicano is SUPPOSED to have a very generous layer of parmesan cheese over mayonase and then chili powder or tejiene sprinkled on it, salt and Valentina or similar hot sauce and lemon or lime juice. It was just mayo and tejiene! That is not what you advertised or what I ordered! To make matters worse, I don't even believe that it was mayonnaise, but maybe a Miracle Whip like substitute and everyone knows that that is not acceptable! It's Real Mayonnaise or nothing....... as you can see from the pictures, I had to dump a whole dish on salsa on everything to make it moist enough to eat. I will be back because this is not usual and is the exception, not the rule.......and they have great happy hour drink prices!!! The Pollo A La Crema, the Chicken Verde Enchiladas and the Fajitas have always been on point in the past. I was looking for a change of pace, and boy...
Read moreSo let’s just dive in. My boyfriend and I walked in and was seated quickly, we waiting for about 10 min as the waitress walked back and forth helping other customers. Another Woman approached us and asked what would we like to drink we told her sweet tea. We received our drinks quickly. Waiting another 15 min another waitress walks over and asked us if we were ready to order? I told her no give us 5 mins and we will definitely be ready. Another additional 15 min later we are still waiting. Another waitress walks over to take our ordered and then about 8 min the food was out ! I order the Jadin burrito hopefully I’m spelling that right but it’s completely vegetarian and my boyfriend had the same ! As I’m eating I notice that the produce stickers were still on the bell peppers the worst part they were sliced into my food, so I’m wondering how much of these plastic stickers I’ve eaten. My boyfriend called the “one “waitress over and told her about the food . She had NO CONCERN that it was plastic in my food ! She simply said “oh ok” like what ? No sorry or concern. Here is the worst part about 45 min after we left I felt very sick 😷!!!!!!! And we paid partial for the food that was full of peppers with plastic. I wasn’t trying to argue but I was trying to get the heck out of there . After I started feeling sick 🤢 I started vomiting and it was strange as I’m vomiting it’s burning my chest and throat , 20 min later I’m on the Toilet, cramping, dizzy, and hot, indeed I caught Food poisoning. I’m still dealing with it don’t know how long this will go on BUT STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! They show no passion for food or...
