Today is the last day I order from this restaurant. I order my food from their online menu, I got a plate or orange chicken which said it comes with steamed rice. When I went in, the man at the front asked to see the confirmation for the order, which was weird. I’ve ordered from this restaurant quite a lot and I’ve never had to show my email confirmation but I assumed maybe they’ve had issues with people taking orders that weren’t theirs. He went to hand me the bag and I noticed there was no steamed rice. He said it doesn’t come with it. I’ve ordered this exact meal at least 10 or more times since I started eating there and it has always come with steamed rice. I told him yes it does, he said it doesn’t, and I said that’s what your website says. So he went and got the rice and when he came back, he grabbed one of the paper menus to show me that I was wrong. I then proceeded to pull up their website, their menu, and showed him that it says it comes with steamed rice. He said “oh” and then went to the back of the restaurant. I left and I will not go back. Maybe instead of arguing with me, they should make sure their menus are consistent. My food was good which is why they got 2 stars.
Update: Their food really isn't that great. They give you large portions of meat that look good, but by the time you eat the top layer of chicken, you're left with what's basically chunks of breading with no meat at all. Don't wait...
Read moreI will eat just about anything, I love food even strange food, weird food, and even foods that are unpalatable to most people. I have never thrown out a meal after a few bites until I had King Wok's sweet and sour chicken. It was horrible.
And I believe in giving restaurants a second or third chance, I know that sometimes things happen, cooks aren't on their A game, no big deal. I've ordered from this place a few times now and each time it has gotten worse. From the pepper beef that had no pepper and tasted like it was covered with expired gravy from a jar to the horrible chicken dishes with strange textures and the flavor of burnt cooking oil. I have given up on King Wok and will never order from here again unless they make some changes or lower their prices drastically by paying people to eat their food on a dare.
If I had to give some advice to the owners and/or cooks it would be this: Don't tenderize your chicken with baking soda it doesn't need it. Also, dispose of your cooking oil. I know you've been using the same oil for a long time and it's either burnt or filled with burnt food or maybe it's just motor oil. I mean these are really basic things and the failure to maintain your cooking oil really speaks to how bad it must be inside your restaurant.
But it was cheap and got...
Read moreThe food is typical Chinese but they do offer a few other items on their menu. My favorite being the green curry. Prices are decent. My only gripe is that the place is filthy. It begins at the door which is covered with dark grime from all hands of people entering and exiting. The windows look dirty, and it does not get much better when you get inside. I wish the owners would clean up the place so that it at least appears that they give a damn. I think cleaning up the appearance of the place with a new door, rebuild the little wall that forms the foye, fix the trim, and give it a nice coat of paint inside would really make it quite a bit more inviting and comfortable. I still buy from them but every time I start to open that door I second guess myself and say a little prayer to the E-coli gods. Please King Wok, just a little effort would...
