This place was fantastic! I’m Uruguayan and I was very excited to try some sweets from my childhood and I was not disappointed.
The pastaflora was amazing! Authentic recipe, tasted just as I remembered. The membrillo was excellent and the dough was crumbly and super flavorful. The alfajor was also great, although very small. The dulce de leche was very good, and the cookie held together very well. You can taste the maizena on the cookie which I loved. The last item I tried was the spinach and cheese empanada. This is also a classic Uruguayan empanada, but this one included raisins. I never tried it like that, and might be an Argentinian recipe, but I actually enjoyed the savory and sweet combination.
The only reason why I’m not giving it 5 starts is because of the price. For the empanada, and 3 small pastries (especially the alfajor) I paid $20. I would agree if the empanada was beef or if the Pastries were larger, but to me, although I loved it, it...
Read moreI don't think it has reached its potential YET. I was thrilled to hear about this place for its South American fare and coffees. My first visit I stopped in at lunch. Easy parking and the place is quaint and clean with a beautiful display of various delectable pastries and warm, inviting staff. I had a latte and spinach/cheese empanada. (Regret not having a pastry because they looked amazing). The coffee was good, but basic and there are no syrups as folks are used to adding to latte. That's fine with me, but would prefer to have the option. The empanada would probably have been good if it was warm, but difficult to eat at room temperature. Nice seating and probably good place to sit alone with a laptop/book or with a partner. Few cafe options like it in the area, so I hope it succeeds, but also would like to see more food options on the menu and general evolution of the potentially lovely components it has established as...
Read moreLet me start by saying that this place is underrated. This is a beautiful little south American coffee joint, very clean, amazing interior decor, fantastic empanadas and mind-blowing Cuban coffee. The place is run by one of the best people you can ever talk to, she is amazing. I'll suggest everyone to give this place a try and give Starbucks a break for once. I can't wait to come back. Repeating the fact that the empanadas are amazing and you must try it. They have a big table for groups, they have Hugh chairs and outdoor seating too. Parking is free and accessible and it isn't very crowded, that's a good thing but again that also means not a lot of people know about this amazing place. Highly recommended and must try if you are in Austin. This place deserves...
