Cool little place, it's like a house that's converted into a restaurant. We walked in, and the place is lined with wood. It was really cool and had a nice bar to it as well. We were at our table within 5 minutes of walking into the door and greeted right away by our waitress. We didn't get any appetizers as it was lunchtime. I ordered the perch sandwich, and they have homemade coleslaw and french fries with it. It was absolutely wonderful the breading was perfect and it was cooked exceptionally well. My daughter got the three shrimp tacos, and it was very good she especially liked the sriracha sauce that came with it. My wife got the chicken wrap in french fries and loved it. We would for sure be going back to this place it was great. I can't wait to try it again

My family and I frequently go to Jake’s on the Lake. On Ash Wednesday we ordered three perch dinners and were HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED. First, my husband called and ordered it for pick up and had to take my two year old and four month old with him. The staff would not carry his order out to his car because it was raining. ABSURD. Then when we got home and a few pieces of fish had scales on them. I understand a few bones here and there but SCALES? Totally unacceptable for $20 entrees. We will NEVER return to Jake’s on the Lake. When I contacted the restaurant to tell them about my experience, he did not apologize for the scaly fish, but rather brought up my Christianity for saying I was going to write a google review.

Really popular place, can be hard to get into. Remember that it's not open on Sundays and mondays. But it's open for lunch and dinner the rest of the week. Don't be afraid to sit at the bar, rather than wait for a table. Service is great, the food is very good and the specials at a really nice variety to the menu. They also have a patio out back when the weather's right. One thing is though, don't be fooled by the name. Yes, Jake's on Lake road, but you can't actually see the lake from dining room. That's the only thing missing is a lake view. It's really a great neighborhood place, and a good choice to bring out-of-towners when you're looking for something local rather than a chain restaurant.

Nice place. We found parking easily, and right by the door. We were greeted and seated fairly quickly, and it was pretty packed. The food was really good. We got started with wings, and our mains were the Captain's Platter and corned beef. I'll start with the good; everything was seasoned well, made fresh, and brought to us hot and quickly. The fries were fresh cut, and well seasoned. The shrimp were pretty typical, the walleye bites were good, but judging from the menu and just about everyone's plate in the restaurant, the perch is the star. I was pretty excited to try it, and it was great. The batter was flavorful, and mostly crisp-more on that below. We also got some battered mushrooms, which were really good too.

Now, what stopped this from being a 4 star review; the chicken wings were undercooked, the flesh closest to the bone was dark pink. To be fair, they were huge, but for our own safety we couldn't eat anymore of them, so we just boxed them up to finish cooking at home. Also, while I enjoyed the perch, my only issue was the lettuce tucked under the plate of coleslaw made the batter slightly soggy underneath the fish. Lastly, we were given a frosty glass for the beer in the background, unfortunately it was brought to us with an imprint from someone else's lip on it. It was replaced promptly, and I don't hold it against them.

Is it worth a visit? Definitely. Most seemed to order the perch sandwich, which eliminates the issue I had, or get the platter and see if they'll serve it sans lettuce. If you decide to wings, ask...

After years of eating at this establishment, it’s unfortunate the response we got from management tonight. Being a party of 6 and watching several tables continuously be sat in front of us, I politely came up to the host and explained if she continuously sat tables in front of us there would not be two tables to push together. I understand waiting in a smaller restaurant, that’s not my issue and never was and honestly the owners son brought out French fries for our children to hold them over which was very sweet. But then for the owner to rudely come up to me out of nowhere to say “maybe our restaurant isn’t for you, it’s not for everyone” is not the tone I would expect from management nonetheless the owner. She told me “the hostess is very upset”. I explained I was never rude or unkind to the hostess. I was never mean, vulgar, or anything towards the hostess. I simply explained the situation. I’ve worked in the restaurant industry for years, never have I encountered this reaction from management nonetheless the owner.

I will say on a Friday night at dinner time, we chose to stay. We had already waited with two small children who just needed to eat at this point. Our server, Lauren was wonderful. We explained we were never trying to create a problem. If the owner had taken a second to try to gain a understanding of what was happening rather than come at me with hostility she would...

I ordered a blackened walleye dinner which came with a potato and vegetable. The walleye was dry and overcooked, had limp skin still on it and was not even warm. I struggle to understand how they felt what they were serving was blackened as I saw no evidence of it and it was extremely bland. The vegetable was squash and zucchini that was cold, steamed with no seasoning. The baked potato was the only item that was good and hot.

The dining room was extremely busy and my waitress was clearly overloaded.

What I placed my initial order I had included an order for a gourmet vegetable burger to go. I tried to cancel it but my waitress was so busy I could barely talk to her until I was ready to leave. Apparently the kitchen had already made the burger and fries and so she gave it to me at no cost based on my dissatisfaction with the dinner. I tasted the veggie burger and the fries when I got home. The fries totally not done and I like my fries on the limper side too. I saw nothing gourmet like about the veggie burger. Neither item was worth heating up so I disposed of them.

This was my first visit to Jake's on the Lake and I hope this was only my one bad experience. Since the dining room was packed I can only assume this was my unlucky day and that many people must be very satisfied with it.

As a note I did pay full price...
