Review of the day: Ben's PourHouse & Grille
On my quest to ever expand my options for karaoke entertainment I found myself in Bens PourHOUSE on a Sunday night. Bens is a medium sized bar that serves food that's a cut above the competition, boasts a great dj with an awesome sound system and in a time where restaurant service has suffered due to poor staffing conditions provides some of the friendliest most attentive staff possible.
The food definitely set itself apart from the completion. I ordered shepherds pie egg rolls for an app and they were an excellent twist on an old favorite, sliced long to showcase the ingredients and served with a side of dipping gravy. The plate was enough that I think many people could consider it a meal. It in no way skimped on portions. Regardless, being the chameleon of a fat kid I am I decimated the dish and made my way to my entree, a chicken and waffles sandwich complete with a maple glaze, chicken, bacon and 2 crunchy and appropriately sized waffles made to order. While I've seen attempts at this sandwich made at other pubs they've always been lackluster, underwhelming and disappointing. Bens PourHOUSE heard that cry of injustice and answered it, providing a sandwich, nay a meal to be aspired to by any one else who dares attempt. The egg was perfectly cooked, bacon crunchy, waffles thin enough enjoy in a sandwich but flavorful and with a perfect crunch. The plate came heaping with sweet potato fries that spoke to a level of class most pub food won't even try for. A refreshing crunchy pickle spear garnished the plate and brought it all home.
My go to diet and captain was made with a generous portion of rum in a tall glass because this is an adult bar. No kids cups like some of the places out there.
Finally a recap on the service. The team thier works together, the environment is busy but not stressed, welcoming and engaging. It was my first venture there but I felt as at home as a regular. The Karaoke crowd was diverse, fun and supportive with a lot of varying talent and characters.
I'd say they Bens is of average cost for a night out, but of overwhelming value all things considered. They are located in Avon and I'm definitely going to be a repeat patron.
If your looking for a pub with a touch of class and a welcoming environment check out...
Read moreWas looking for a place to get chicken wings and beer after making a trip to this area for other reasons. Noticed the great reviews and usually the small bars are the best places for wings so decided to stop in. 1st impression tables on dinning side were empty but were not cleared, bar tender said there was more seating on pub side we ended up being the only ones on that side which made it slow to get service especially with being short staffed. 2nd issue ordered 2 tall draft budlights and beer tasted like lines were dirty, was refunded and got bottles. 3rd issue ordered large wings and split 2 sauces one half of the large came to us plain, asked for sauce for them and that took about 15 minutes had to get up and ask again. 4th issue after looking at the bill this place s prices are kind of high even for the times, 11 wings 18 bucks, plate of non homemade fries 8 bucks, small chicken tenders 13 bucks, watered down lemonade 3.50. Prices wouldn't of been so bad if there wasn't so many other issues with the place. Food was good if it all came correct. I see better potential for this place, but for today it was tuff to leave the normal 20% tip. 2 stars only because the chicken meat was good and the bottled...
Read moreI am now editing my post to a one star..... when I first tried this place I loved it the food and the service were pretty good. I came here with my husband last Saturday . Came in the resturant side .sign said wait to be seated so we waited for about 5 to 8 minutes the person who was supposed to be seating us was hanging all over some guy at the bar paying no mind to her customers . Finally the guy noticed and told her were were waiting . She greeted us nicely and told us we could sit where we wanted. We sat at a booth and she came and took our drink order . Drinks were good. Then we both ordered the southern fried chicken dish which I have had two times on other occasions. Before our meal came we were in need of more drinks and the waitress was agian hanging all over a patron at the bar. To the point that my husband figured he will bring the empty glasses up and get our own drinks. After that the waitress was more attentive. The food though I don't understand what happend it was not the same quality. The mashpotates were so bland no flavor at all same with the fried chicken ....upside gravy was still good . I don't think we will be returning after...
