Never disappointed with this place. The food and service is consistently good. There’s a lot of free parking within a block or two and very accessible. The setting is casual, comfortable, and clean. My sons, wife, and I started with the chive dumplings, which are a must have. My wife and I got the fried Thai chicken while one son had Penang perfect and the other had the General Tso’s chicken. Everything was delicious.
Update. Overall a good place to eat. It's in a good location with several free parking garages within a few blocks which helps. Service is always good and the food is consistently good. This last time my wife and I made a meal with plenty of small plates (appetizers). One of our favorites is the crispy chive dumplings and the winter squash potstickers. We also had the chicken satay , chicken mango salad, and fresh Vietnamese summer rolls. Most are solid but I think the satay could be better.
Update. We went there for lunch today since it had been awhile. We found parking behind the restaurant without any problems. The restaurant was clean and service was decent but I do feel like they’ve slipped some. I had the pad see ew while my wife had the Penang perfect curry. Both were ok but not up to our expectations. My pad see ew was a little sweeter than it should be and I think the vegetables were different. My wife’s chicken in the curry was tough.
Still good food, but it feels like they’ve slipped. Getting parked is easy as there are no less than 3 free parking garages within a block or two so there’s no reason to worry. We were seated quickly although they were very busy; busier than I’ve ever seen them. The setting is very nice and a great place to go with a significant other. The food however seemed blander than in the past. An absolute must try are the crispy chive dumplings and winter squash potstickers. I had the crying Tiger steak, but it came nowhere near to making me cry; I think it could have been better. My wife had the spicy eggplant and had no problem with the heat to where she had to add peppers (and she normally avoids spicy). My son had the chicken cashew, which was shy of cashews. Again, not bad, but not as good as it used to be. New chef?
I am never disappointed with THAI in Shirlington. The service is always great, and the food is always delicious. I’m a huge fan of the drunken noodles, spicy basil fried rice, pan-seared squash potstickers, and garlic chive wafers. But other dishes I’ve had were also delicious. This is a regular for...
Read moreUpdate to my original 5 star review... I should start off by saying i have been a faithful patron of this restaurant for 14 years.... and I rarely leave bad reviews but today's experience was very troubling.
February 15, 2025 I am so disappointed to have to update this review but my experience today at Thai in Shirlington was terrible and unacceptable. I will just state the highlights both positive and negative. Wonton soup is stilll delicious. 2. My son loved the tofu bites.
Everything beyond that was simply unacceptable and not what i have grown to love about Thai in Shirlington.
The glasses of water given to us when we arrived were dirty. All 3! My son's had dried rice on the glass and my daughter and I, both found dirt on them. When i ordered our drinks, I asked for "to go cups" to prevent getting more dirty glasses.
I veered away from my usual (spicy eggplant) and ordered their ginger stir fry as it was reccomended by the server - and it was awful. 1st, it was not hot, second it looked like steamed veggies and some strange sauce were poured on it and had absolutely NO flavor and hardly any ginger. I ate a piece of the tofu and a piece of broccoli and had to stop. When my server asked how it was, i told him not great and he said he was so sorry and walked away. Literally walked away! Did not even offer to fix it.
Three minutes later another server(not my original) came by and I told her I did not like it and to please remove it from my bill. I had not touched it much or the rice that came with it at all. She said she would talk to her manager. She then came back and said she would reduce the price by 25% which i found puzzling. I did not eat or like the dish! She then came back again but told me that it was removed but that the manager said, "Next time I don't like a dish, I should let the server know BEFORE ordering" ...my mouth dropped. I could not believe what came out her mouth.
The manager came by 3 minutes later to further justify the actions of her server (conpletely baffled at this point - and highly upset)
I also heard the table behind me (also faithful customers - who I overheard just left a funeral!!! Yes a funeral..., and were overcharged. The manager treated them terrible as well.
Needless to say - this is not the experience I am accustomed to having and had to update my review below. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED.
Delicious wonton soup, spicy egg plant was pretty good - not as spicy as i would have liked. Service from Ms. Lin...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at a T.H.A.I Shirlington restaurant and I cannot stop raving about their Green Curry Chicken. It was an unforgettable culinary experience! The flavors were simply divine, with the perfect balance of spices and creaminess. The tender chicken pieces combined with the aromatic green curry paste created a burst of delightful flavors in every mouthful.
The dish was beautifully presented with vibrant green curry sauce garnished with fresh basil leaves. The portion size was generous, ensuring that I left the restaurant feeling completely satisfied. The fragrance of the dish was irresistible, making it even more appetizing.
What impressed me the most was the attention to detail in the preparation of the dish. The chicken was cooked to perfection, incredibly tender and juicy. The vegetables in the curry were fresh and crisp, contributing to the overall wonderful texture. The flavors were complex and well-balanced, creating a harmonious blend that left a lasting impression.
The service at the THAI Shirlington restaurant was exceptional as well. The staff was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. They were more than happy to answer my questions and make recommendations. The atmosphere of the restaurant was warm and inviting, contributing to an enjoyable overall dining experience.
I highly recommend trying the Green Curry Chicken at this T.H.A.I Shirlington. It exceeded all my expectations in terms of taste, presentation, and service. If you're a fan of Thai cuisine or looking to try something new, this is an absolute must-try dish. I'll definitely be coming back for more!
