Ever since leaving San Diego over a decade ago I’ve been dreaming of eating California burritos again. Found an Instagram post from Taco Zocalo showing a Cali burrito that looked authentic and I knew I had to check out the place for myself. Upon arriving I asked the cashier if their California burrito had guacamole and sour cream in it and she affirmed yes. That was a blatant lie as there was nothing in it but steak and potatoes with a little bit of salsa, not to mention the taste was lackluster. There’s nothing honest about charging $13 for false advertising at its finest.

I really enjoyed their fish taco and appreciated that it came with guacamole. That was a nice touch. These feel more like Americanized tacos, so don’t come here expecting anything super authentic. Aside from the fish and guac, everything else (carne asada & barbacoa) was just okay. This spot is more of a “I’m hungry and need something quick” place rather than somewhere I’d go out of my way for. I don’t see myself coming back, especially when one taco is around $5. In my opinion, there are better options nearby

Taco Zocalo is an excellent halal taco spot with great service and great food. The staff is very friendly and it's super clean. The tacos don't take long to make and they're full of flavor. I got the barbacao, beef and then the BBQ chicken. They have 3 hot sauces which are all different but very tasty. I also got the cheese and queso which is the perfect appetizer. Overall, this place is worth a stop especially if you're looking for halal tacos!

Ordered takeout and when I got home, I noticed that the California burrito that I ordered was not in the bag. I also realized that I was not asked what toppings I wanted for my tacos, so they had toppings I wouldn't have wanted. I ended up letting my wife have the tacos and settled for something in house since she was the one who wanted the missing burrito. She said that the tacos were fine. I won't let one bad experience deter me from trying the place again, but more customer service and attention would go a long way. The establishment does mobile orders as well (door dash, Uber eats, etc.), so I can only hope they're getting orders right for those services. I also should have double checked the bag for the correct order. The location was bright, clean and welcoming. The menu isn't...

Pretty terrible. So I don’t like cilantro which makes restaurants like this a little more difficult but I make do. I just ask for no cilantro and it’s never an issues.

Here? They add cilantro after saying they have no cilantro. And then they add extra cilantro when the thing doesn’t even come with it. My friend likes it, ordered Rice and it had no cilantro on top. I ordered rice after and they piled the cilantro on top.

I got chimichanga and asked for no cilantro, and instead of marking it, the kitchen said there was no cilantro and then piled it on top.

This place is terrible.

Their Elote is boiled as well so it’s not good.

I’d skip...

Really disappointing. Queso has the same taste and texture as the lazy 'at home' version that is made with Velveeta and ro-tel canned tomatoes + peppers. The barbacoa was acceptable, but the rice used in my burrito seemed like the typical bulk-frozen food service/grocery store frozen aisle stuff (tell tale signs like the grains being too smooth and puffy, indicating parboiling and flash freezing). Overall quality of food is probably on par with Taco Bell, but at about twice the price.

House-brand hot sauces were okay, though even the hottest wasn't particularly spicy. Service was...
