I visited The Sunrise Shack twice during my trip to Bartlett. I'd like to break the experience down a bit.
Ambiance: Five stars. This place is just what a breakfast place in the mountains ought to look like, sunshiney, with lots of natural wood. Not too many tables, the downside being longer wait times during busy hours. There were lots of families there, which comes with noisy children, but I won't fault The Sunrise Shack for being family friendly... that is a boon to some and a drawback for others.
Service: Five stars.
They were quick and efficient and totally NH, which I appreciated as a displaced native. Friendly and personable every time!
Food: 3 stars The bacon is awesome! My husband and mother-in-law loved the blueberry pancakes but were a bit overwhelmed by the portions. Might be nice to be able to order 1, 2 or 3 pancakes and to indicate their size on the menu.
Anadama bread on the toast menu... +1000 points.
On my second day, I had oatmeal, but my impression was that it was an afterthought on their menu. It arrived still steeping in its own hot water. I waited a bit to see if the oats would soak up the water but it never really did. I am not a complainer type and I hate wasted food so I ate it anyway, but I'm offering my feedback now as constructively as possible. Oatmeal can be an afterthought, or it can be a high quality addition to the menu especially in hiking country. I understand it's probably not a popular item on their menu full of breakfast bowls and what not, so it's probably made to order. Oatmeal takes me about five minutes to make perfectly every morning-- regular rolled oats... I think the Sunrise Shack team can pull it off. Some other topping suggestions: chopped dried apples, raisins, pecans, sliced almonds.
Huevos rancheros bowl-- nothing like actual huevos rancheros but still pretty good if you like peppers and tex-mexy flavors.
Corned beef hash is great but make sure you order it extra crispy for the flavors. The first day, mine came out just warmed up which is not nearly as special as crispy hash.
Overall 4 stars... I think there is room for improvement on the food, but the service and atmosphere...
Read moreBeen coming here for years however, first time writing a review. So we (party of 3)walked in at 10:10 (Friday am). Stood inside the entrance for a few minutes without being noticed. There was someone there to our left, but that person wouldn't recognize us. No biggie, a short time later we were greeted by someone very friendly and we're sat at a table. They immediately brought coffee over to us and asked if we were ready to order. We needed a few minutes as we were waiting for the 3rd person to show. Once our other party showed they brought coffee right away and we ordered. The place was not packed but definitely a good amount of people. So far everything is perfect. So during our conversation, the person I first mentioned, started cleaning tables. Oddly, it was noticed by the entire restaurant patrons. This person didn't just push chairs in, a chair was picked up and tossed a foot making a very loud noise that startled many. OK, no biggie. However, then that person began to throw things around like a tantrum. He backhanded the ketchup bottle over to the adjoining table. This went on for a long time. As 1 party would leave this person would go to the table and once again, make lots of noise banging the mugs together, throwing the new place settings down and just making a huge spectacle. The behavior was extremely odd, almost looking like attention-seeking. Another waitress noticed and tried to make light of it. The behavior bordered disturbing. My wife told me later that she found it strange that not a single coworker said anything, zero. Our food came out and was cooked to perfection as usual. The service was fantastic as was all our meals. No complaints. However, the behavior of this person continued the entire visit. It was so loud and obvious done intentionally and very hard to ignore. Makes us wonder why the staff didn't stop this behavior. We live in a world today, especially recently, that it just didn't make sense that no one addressed it or said a thing. I will end by saying, we still love the food and will continue coming back when we're up this way. However, if this happens again, we will...
Read moreI usually don't write reviews, but after today i really had to share my experience i had at this place. It was one of the worst experiences i've had in a long time. First of all, the host that was supposed to sit us was really rude and not friendly! Like it was her job to make you feel unwated or unwelcomed there. I somehow tried to find an excuse for that behaviour, we all had a long and busy summer(yes, i am local and yes i work in the service industry too), but it didn't stop there. We were one of the two tables sitting there at the moment but somehow she decided she didn't like us so we had to wait 15 minutes for someone to come and greet us. I am sorry, but that is not how customer service works, at all. The food was delicious, but not even that could make up for how she acted. No one asked us if we wanted more coffee or anything, and at the end, she just brought the check, using a rude tone and not even making an eye contact, saying whenever i am ready for that, she turned her back, continued walking and said they take card or cash!?!? Like seriously? I am sorry, but i've been in this industry for a long time now and i've never treated anyone like that, there is no excuse for that! Her attitude was the worst! Not sure whst the reason was for that, but it's not right. I would not recomend this place to anyone! If i could, i would...
