This is a family-run establishment that has been in business for at least 40 years. They're hard workers and manage to pull in lots of customers for the lunch buffet and evening take-out. However, the quality of the food is just not that great in my opinion.
It's ok if you already know what to order, but you'll probably have to do some trial-and-error to find something you like. There are certain items on the menu that I think are made very well, such as the Imperial Chicken, but once you find an entree you like it's best to just stick with that. A lot of their food is either bland (like the wonton soup) or WAY oversauced (especially at the buffet). I like a lot of flavor in my food but the sauces they prepare are always sweet, thick, and almost gooey, which can get sickening after a few bites. A friend of mine ordered the "Mandarin Chicken" one time, which turned out to be regular fried chicken with brown gravy. Not exactly what one would expect from a Chinese restaurant.
On the bright side, the prices are really low considering the amount of food they give you. An average person can very easily get two full meals out of a single $9 entree. Overall, I'd call it decent hangover food. But don't come here looking...
Read moreWell after 9.5hoirs of driving we opted to get delivery. Ordered chicken in garlic sauce and the General tsaos chicken, what we got was fried batter in a sauce was no where near General tsaos chicken so if you want batter go ahead and order it. The chicken in garlic sauce well at least it had chicken in it, there was a sauce but it wasn't garlic sauce. These were supposed to come with a pint of rice... well got half a container of the chicken in garlic sauce the two pints of rice were half full each so one pint for two. Save your money go elsewhere this is not traditional anything no flavor for basic dish..... we should be able to give negative stars..... spend 30.00 elsewhere, at least where the food is good..... even called them to advise of the fried dough in sauce with no chicken in it....their response was its a popular dish that is very good.... don't know who would think that as its supposes to be a spicey dish....maybe they need to learn how to actually cook Chinese food...
Read moreI haven’t eaten here in a couple of years but I was just reminiscing about this place and realized that I never left a review. My mom and I happened upon the Chinese Inn by accident when I first arrived at LSU and for the next 5 years it was a constant staple for me and eventually my best friend/roommate. This restaurant has THE BEST combination fried rice I’ve ever tasted in my entire life. I try to match it at every Chinese restaurant I go to and have never once succeeded. After I graduated college, I would go back there any time I was in Baton Rouge and drag whoever I had with me to experience this dish and every single person agreed with me about the fried rice. Unmatched. And the staff is sooooo sweet. For years after my roommate and I graduated, we would go in there and they would remember us. If just one of us was there, they’d always say “Oh, how’s your friend!”
Also the hot and sour soup and egg drop are phenomenal. Oh, and get the...
