Martin's: Wine, Liquor, Beer & Deli - Moss Side — Restaurant in Baton Rouge

I went in looking for a gift bottle of bourbon. The selection was . . . overwhelming. Fortunately, one of the employees proved to be very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I described what I was looking for and he provided a couple of choices.

To my great surprise, when I said it's impossible to tell what something tastes like by looking at the labeling, he asked if I'd like to taste it. Well, sure!

They have a bourbon tasting area with a number of different bourbons available. Not all that they stock but a fair number.

I purchased one of the recommended bottles after my tasting. That's a very effective marketing tool!

They, of course, have a great variety of wines and a small selection of beers. It looked like they have a deli as well but I didn't eat anything.

Attentive service. Big selection, but had nothing I was looking for. I had no way of telling who was staff and who was not. Had a person approach me and ask if I was looking for something in particular. I thought they were staff so we started talking about tequilas and then another person approached and asked if WE needed any help finding anything. So I thought the first person was a customer and the second staff. Then the second person walked off. The first stuck around. We talked a bit more and he walked off. Then he was behind the register. Had me a bit confused for a second. Not a bad place though. I know they sell food too. Have not tried...

I'm only rating the reuben sandwich in the deli and wish there was a separate way to do this because the wine shop's not bad. I'd heard they had really good reubens here and since it's my favorite deli sandwich, I finally decided to give them a try. I was very disappointed. The meat had large strips of fat and if there was sauerkraut on it, I couldn’t tell. Additionally, the bread was over toasted to the point of the crust being rock hard. My...
