Smokin' Z's BBQ & Kraft Kitchen — Restaurant in Bayou Vista

My search for really good BBQ that doesn't involve a day trip north of Houston has ended. I came across Smokin' Z in a review in Texas Monthly. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the brisket. It was thick sliced, nicely seasoned, juicy, and flavorful. I also had the pulled pork, which was delicious. My wife, who usually doesn't like pulled pork, had some of mine and surprised me when she said she'd think about getting the pulled pork over her usual, the ribs. She said that the ribs were good. We enjoyed the loaded baked potato salad which had tasty bits of brisket in it. I enjoyed the jalapeno cream corn, which had a nice combination of sweet corn and zesty jalapenos. The corn bread souffle was also good. The portions are generous and satisfying. Based on the other reviews, we should have tried their Mac & Cheese, which we will next time. We're also interested in trying their breakfast menu.

So glad we found this place. It's a little hidden gem inside the EZ Food Mart. Had a cute little covered picnic area in the back to eat by the water. The staff was incredibly nice. But lets talk FOOD!! Oh my gosh. The brisket and pork belly was amazing. Super moist with great flavor. You know its good when you dont need the bbq sauce. As bbq should be. The mac and cheese was so suprisingly good with its unique flavor. And the potato salad was seasoned just right! Nothing worse than a bland potato salad. So props to them on that. I should also mention the Big Cheese (Brisket grilled cheese) and the smash burger were also really good. We will definitely be back to try the ribs and sausage that we missed out on today. I was searching for great-tasting Texas smoked barbecue "near me," and I wasn't disappointed!!! Do not sleep on Smokin' Z's BBQ & Kraft Chicken! The taste is uncommonly great! You don't need sauce. And the meat is tender enough for a toothless baby to enjoy. I wanted to order the pork ribs, but they were sold out shortly after Noon. That's impressive.
